Activities at Mount Vale Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from PAT dogs, entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Louise Chapman

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Louise I have been working at Mount Vale since 2010. I am the activities co-ordinator, I am here to promote the wellbeing of our residents and ensure they have a variety of activities to get involved in. I love finding new creative ways to engage our residents and involve our local community.

I am a dementia champion for the home and enjoy continuing to learn and find more things I can do to help promote the wellbeing of our residents.

I love spending time with each individual getting to know them so I can add individual needs into our plans. I love building strong relationships with our residents and families.

I am a crafty person and can be found doing diamond arts and lots of other creative things when I am not at work. I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my dog Dottie and cuddling my cat Loki.

Life at Mount Vale Care Home

Relaxation and concentration!

Residents at Mount Vale enjoy a varied life enrichment programme and this week have enjoy a simple relaxing morning in the homes cafe area, conversations flowed and everyone enjoyed refreshments and homemade cakes.

World's Biggest Coffee morning

In recognition of Macmillan’s Coffee Morning, we hosted our very own fundraising event for friends, families and community members to raise funds for the charity.   Our home was specially decorated for the occasion, our talented chef prepared a variety of cakes, cupcakes and delicious treats following Macmillan Cancer Support’s recipes and we all got involved in fun-filled games and activities.   We all had a wonderful day raising funds for this lovely cause.

Long service celebrated

We celebrated Fay’s 10 year of service with Barchester this week. Fay was presented with a £250.00 shopping voucher, a long service pin and flowers from our general manager Helen Lewis.  Fay is a senior carer here at mount vale.

History of Botanical garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.

Remembering the Queen

Residents joined a special Church Service to say prayers for the sad loss of Queen Elizabeth II following the news of her passing.  Our Residents chose to display pictures and have flowers in her memory and shared memories of her Majesty and that of her service to the country and commonwealth.

Stepping into Autumn

Elsie and other residents like nothing more than walking about the grounds and collecting leaves, cones etc.  We decided to make a display for Harvest. Everyone had great fun making it and all our visitors enjoyed trying to find all of the little animals we made from salt dough.
