Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home
The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.
Zoe Giles
Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.
I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!
I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home
Live Music Performance
Residents of Mulberry Court were treated to an afternoon of musical delight as they watched a very special live musical performance by the local choir. Residents were delighted to see the choir from the local community perform a selection of festive carols as part of the homes busy social calendar. Resident, Marion took great delight in singing along as she had been a member for many years before moving to the home.
General Manager, Steve Edgar said, “Our residents had a wonderful visit to the school and sung along with the wonderful performers. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this was one was one of our favourites.”
Don't Dine Alone
As part of Mulberry Court’s Don’t Dine Alone campaign they regularly open there doors to a number of people from the community to help tackle loneliness. They invited anyone who would usually dine alone to join them each month, residents also welcome their families to join them at their home to enjoy each other’s company.
Family were able to enjoy a tasty lunch in the home’s dining room where they had a chance to catch up while enjoying their food. After dinner, everyone listened to music, played some games and even tested their knowledge with a fun quiz.
Steve Edgar, General Manager said: “The day was a great success. It was a great effort from my team. They are always keen to do more as its wonderful experience for everyone”
Getting Into The Festive Spirit
Residents of Mulberry Court recently enjoyed a spot of retail therapy at nearby York Designer Outlet village to purchase a few Christmas gifts for their loved ones.
It was fun to see all the Christmas decorations, spend time browsing the shop displays and enjoy the bustling atmosphere. With a spot of lunch and a warming cup of tea everyone was ready to head home. It was a thoroughly enjoyable outing and it certainly made everyone get into the festive spirit!
Residents Enjoy Armchair Exercise
Residents at Mullberry Court enjoy regular armchair exercise sessions with Maggie accompanied with musical instruments, singing and physio with James. This is something the home have been doing for a couple of months. The residents perform movements to improve their ankle, wrist and hand strength – which helps them to stand up more easily.
Steve Edgar General Manager said: “It has become one of the residents’ favourite activities to do. Independence is really important to them, and this helps to improve their overall strength and balance to move more freely around the home.
Special Birthday Celebration
Mulberry Court resident, John recently took a trip to visit his wife, Barbara who resides at a sister home, Stamford Bridge where he joined family, friends and fellow residents to toast the birthday girl!
Barbara was delighted to be joined by everyone as she was showered with cards, balloons, good wishes and gifts, she was overwhelmed with happiness throughout the day.
Steve Edgar, General Manager said “It was a pleasure to be able to be take John to visit his wife as part of her birthday celebrations”
Puppy Love
It was love at first as residents welcomed a very special guest from Star Paws for an afternoon of pet therapy. Residents were delighted to meet their new furry friend and there was plenty of attention for their guest.
Star Paws also gave residents in to their dog obedience classes. As everyone sat back to enjoy afternoon tea conversation soon turned to fond memories of their own pets they had in childhood.
General Manager Steve Edgar said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their Star Paws visit today. We knew that having pet therapy here would be a bit of fun for all our residents and it’s wonderful to hear stories from their own childhood of pets they have owned. We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
