Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Home celebrate award

Residents and staff at Mulberry Court Care Home in York applauded as Administrator Alison was named ‘Employee of the Month’ for November.

Alison, who has worked at Mulberry Court for 15 years, was nominated by residents, colleagues and residents’ relatives who felt she really deserved extra recognition for the amazing work she does every day.

Wreath Making

Residents at Mulberry Court had a very busy afternoon, creating beautiful Christmas wreaths to display around the home over the festive period.

Using bunches of holly and ivy, tinsel and bows, and a lot of creative imagination some fabulous decorations were produced!

Well done to everyone involved for a fantastic effort!

Musical Moments

Our residents has another great day of musical entertainment at Mulberry Court with everyone excited to see Maggie from Musical Moments who entertained us with a Christmas themed range of musical activities including singing and moving to music.

It was truly joyful to see so many residents having so much fun, and a delight to see their smiling faces in both our busy group session and the one-to-one room visits.

60th Wedding Anniversary

Celebrations have been in full swing at Mulberry Court in York, as one of its residents reached their 60th Wedding Anniversary in style. Keith and Eileen Stringer were presented with balloons and a card from all the staff, as well as a beautiful cake made by the home’s head chef Steve Hill.

The happy couple, said that it was lovely to share their special anniversary together and celebrate with Mulberry Court staff and residents. When asked about the secret to a long and happy marriage, their response was “Respect and love for one another, as well as good communication”.

Deck the halls with holly!

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Mulberry Court care home, in York, have been preparing to deck the halls, get out the tinsel and unravel the fairy lights, ready for a whole host of Christmas celebrations. The first order of the day was to make sure Santa’s sleigh would be ready for delivering all those lovely presents.

Mulberry Court’s residents have been very busy building Santa’s Sleigh as the homes Christmas centre piece to be displayed in the reception area, and it certainly created a lot of attention for an hour with residents, family and staff.

Nepal Culture Day

What an amazing day at Mulberry Court - Barchester yesterday. We launched our ‘Culture Day’ and we kicked off with Nepal.

Nepal is the country of the Mount Everest, the highest mountain peak in the world, the Birthplace of Gautama Buddha - Lumbini, and as we found out watching a short documentary, lots more amazing places to visit.

After the documentary, one of our Nepalese Care Staff, paraded the traditional dress of Nepal, which left us all amazed and speechless….thank you so much️.

It was a wonderful day generating so much interest and delight.
