Activities at Oak Grange Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oak Grange Care Home

Gardening Club

The residents have been making the most of the good weather and getting out into the garden. They are preparing the beds for our Jubilee themed planting.

World Bee Day

World Bee Day was created in the 1990's to raise awareness of bee conservation, celebrate the important role of bees in our eco-system and enjoy everything that bees bring to our lives! On May 20th, Anton Jansa, the pioneer of beekeeping, was born in 1734.

We have been taking a look at the wonderful things bees bring to our lives, pollenating our flowers, making honey. We had a Bee quiz, made flowers to decorate our pollen tree and of course some buzzy bees themselves, thanks to #Oomph! OnDemand. We had a taste of some local honey on scones washed down with a nice fresh coffee.

Book corner with Henry Slator

We had a lovely time joining Henry Slator for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Conversations at the Pond’.

Henry had an unusual writing journey, which many of our residents found inspiring, he underwent chemotherapy in early 2020, which allowed him to rediscover his light-hearted outlook on life by imagining conversations with creatures in and around his large garden pond and adding buckets of fun.

The entertaining Conversations at the Pond, with its mass of colourful illustrations, took our residents along his journey, they felt inspired, cheered and loved hearing all about Henry’s experiences.

National Tea Day

We marked the Queen’s birthday in style by brewing up a storm for National Tea Day and having an afternoon party.  Supplied with a tasty selection of biscuits, cakes, and of course, teas for our event, our residents had lots of fun taking part in sessions including themed quizzes and virtual tour of the Historic Royal Palaces.

Easter celebrations

The residents have been making Easter decorations for the home. They have decorated an Easter tree with eggs, chicks and little rabbits. We all had a lovely Easter with lots of fun activities and of course lots of chocolate too.  The residents made their own Easter Bonnets and we had a parade of them along the corridor to add to the Easter décor. There was a prize for the best one.

Easter in style

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Oak Grange care home, in Mollington, celebrated Easter with a whole host of different activities including an Easter Egg Hunt, attending a church service, Easter tea party, Easter cake-making, Easter Bonnet Competition.

Residents at Oak Grange enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, from  an Easter Bonnet parade, egg painting, attending a church service to a visit from the Easter bunny.  Residents also tucked in to a delicious Easter meal of roast lamb followed by Easter cake prepared by the home’s head chef Simon Burns.

General Manager, Sarah Butler said: “As always, we’ve all been looking forward to Easter. It’s such a lovely time of year – the residents love all the colourful Easter eggs and the Easter Bonnet parade. It’s really been an eggs-cellent few days!”
