Activities at Oak Grange Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Celebrating life at Oak Grange Care Home

Trip to Chester Zoo!
Residents from Oak Grange Care Home enjoyed a truly memorable day out with a minibus trip to Chester Zoo, filled with laughter, curiosity, and a bit of monkeying around!
The sun was shining as our group set off in the Oak Grange minibus, with plenty of excitement in the air. For some residents, it was their first visit to the zoo in decades, and for others, it brought back fond memories of childhood days and family outings.
From the majestic lions to the playful penguins and cheeky chimpanzees, everyone had their own favourite animal to admire. There was plenty of time to stroll through the beautiful enclosures, stop for refreshments, and share stories along the way.

Minibus trip to adapted bikes in Chester
Residents from Oak Grange Care Home enjoyed a fun-filled and heart-warming day out as they took a trip to try adapted bikes, proving that age is no barrier to adventure!
The outing, arranged by our dedicated Lifestyle Team, took place at a local inclusive cycling centre that provides specially designed bikes for people of all abilities. From trikes and side-by-side tandems to wheelchair-accessible cycles, there was something for everyone to enjoy — safely and comfortably.
For many residents, it was the first time in years they’d experienced the feeling of being on a bike again. There were smiles, laughter, and even a few joyful tears as they pedalled (or were pedalled!) through the park, surrounded by nature and supported by caring staff and volunteers.

World Chocolate Day!
Residents and staff at Oak Grange Care Home enjoyed a truly sweet day as they celebrated World Chocolate Day with a delightful mix of fun, flavour, and nostalgia.
The home was filled with the rich aroma of cocoa as residents participated in chocolate-themed activities throughout the day. From a make-your-own truffle workshop to a chocolate tasting session featuring treats from around the world, there was something for every chocolate lover to enjoy.
There were smiles all around as stories were shared about favourite childhood sweets and old-fashioned chocolate bars. Staff joined in the fun by dressing in chocolate-themed costumes, and residents voted for their favourite – the winner even got a chocolate hamper! The highlight of the day was a special afternoon tea with a chocolatey twist: chocolate-dipped strawberries, mini brownies, and a luxurious chocolate fountain made it an afternoon to remember.
103rd Birthday!
On the 24th June one of our residents, Audrey Bracken celebrated her 103rd birthday.
She had lots of treats for her birthday, one of which was a special visit from Poppy who is a Wellbeing Dog who visits people in care homes, schools and lots of other places. Audrey loves animals and was delighted to stroke Poppy. She is partially sighted and loved being able to touch her.
British Flower Week
Happy British Flowers Week. We have been celebrating the week with lots of colourful flowers.
We have been getting creative and mastering our flower arranging skills, creating bright bouquets that we have placed around our lovely home. They have also been planting flowers out in their garden. Our residents have all commented how lovely they all are.
Our residents have been learning all about British flowers, we were surprised at how many different types there were.
Tour De Barchester
On Thursday 12th June, Day 3 of the Tour De Barchester the cyclists 'rolled' into Oak Grange to huge cheers and a warm welcome from our Residents, staff and the local community.
We were joined by the Mayor of Chester, local Fire Fighters and members of our Divisional Senior Leadership Team, including our Managing Director, Alison Donaldson.
Residents enjoyed a ride in a trishaw, before tucking into a delicious BBQ and finishing off with a visit from an ice cream van.
Animal visit
The residents welcomed some special guests to the home, enjoying a wonderful display of owls flying in the back garden and the chance to pet friendly ponies.
The day’s animal entertainment was a delight, not just for the residents, but for their families as well.
A morning visiting the duck pond
The residents enjoyed a peaceful trip to the local duck pond, soaking up the sunshine as they took a leisurely stroll around the water.
Everyone commented on how lovely the weather was and how relaxed they felt afterward.
VE Day celebrations!
Our residents enjoyed a wonderful day celebrating VE Day with a coffee morning in our very own bistro.
They were visited by members of the armed forces, who proudly showcased their medals to the residents. It was a truly enjoyable day for all involved.

Live the beat
The residents enjoyed their intergenerational afternoon with Live the Beat. We had a drop-in session for carers and their children.
The residents sang along with the children as they gave out different props to go with the songs. The residents get so much joy out of seeing the children.

Easter Coffee Morning
The residents enjoyed a nice get together at their Easter Coffee Morning. We had lots of Easter treats and washed down with fresh coffee.
The residents have been decorating their home with nice Easter decorations.

Relaxing Soundbath
The fast-paced pressure of modern life leaves many feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and on the edge of burnout. Sound therapy can help ease stress, enhance mood and have a positive impact on health and well-being, creating a sense of calm, whilst enabling you to enjoy life in a more balanced and peaceful way. We enjoyed an afternoon of calm and tranquillity as we listened to the relaxing sounds.
Ballet Exercise Class
The residents enjoyed an afternoon with Lynne from the Ballet Dance Academy, where they were able to learn ballet movements while getting some exercise.
Laughter filled the room as the residents followed Lynne's step-by-step guide for each dance move.
A Special Birthday!
Over the weekend, one of our special residents, Bill Smith, turned 90!
Bill's family wanted to make this birthday one to remember. With Bill's help, they organised a 90th birthday party with all of Bill's family visiting.
Tour of Chester football club
The residents had a special trip this week that brought back many memories from their football days. We teamed up with Chester FC to give the gentlemen at Oak Grange a tour of the stadium, allowing them to see the football pitch up close.
We finished the trip with a visit to a local pub, where the gentlemen enjoyed a delicious meal.
