Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

Home supports Mental Health Awareness week

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Ouse View care home in Fulford observed Mental Health Awareness. Each day our amazing staff were able to select treats of drinks, snacks and small gifts. We were supported in this act of kindness by local business Lush, Nestle and York cocoa works who offered donations.

Residents make beeline for World Bee Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Ouse View care home in Fulford were buzzing when they celebrated World Bee Day which was on May 20th.

Created by the UN, World Bee Day is an annual global event raising awareness of the importance of bees and beekeeping for the survival of our ecosystems. Three out of four food crops across the globe rely on bees and other pollinators but those pollinators are under threat from human activities.

National Apple Pie Day

Residents at Ouse View had a delightful time celebrating National Apple Pie Day!

Our talented group took charge of the kitchen and embarked on an apple filled culinary adventure. Together, they skilfully crafted delicious apple turnovers, infusing their unique touch into each one. The wonderful aroma of cinnamon and freshly baked apples permeated the hallways, captivating all the senses.

This activity not only brought back cherished memories of baking for many, but it also fostered new friendships and connections within our care home community.

Eurovision Song Contest

At Ouse View we had a fantastic time as we gathered to watch the Eurovision Song Contest and reminisce about the amazing United Kingdom winners throughout the years. We laughed and we sang along with Sandie Shaw the song "Puppet on a String" and with Lulu we sang "Boom Bang-a-Bang". Residents agreed the best one was the song from Brotherhood of Man "Save Your Kisses for Me". The melodies and lyrics transported us back in time, reminding us of treasured memories and the joyous spirit of those moments.

Residents enjoy popular dementia cafe

In order to support residents’ relatives and friends, and the local community, Barchester’s Ouse View Care Home in Fulford held a friends and family café today everyone was invited to attend.

Our café was open for all to come along and meet others who are supporting friends and family living with dementia, or who think a loved one may have dementia.  It is a great opportunity to find support about coping strategies, how to get a diagnosis and what support is available from like-minded people.  We enjoyed tea, coffee biscuits and a slice of cake with the chance to relax and unwind.

General Manager, Rebekka Richardson says “We want to help and support relatives, friends and members of our local community who have loved ones who are living with dementia. The café is a great way to relax, make friends, and find out information about Alzheimer’s and dementia from our specially trained staff.  We encourage everyone to get involved with activities and games that take place alongside.

A spot of retail therapy

Residents from Ouse View care home in Fulford were exited as they travelled in the minibus to visit Foss Islands Shopping Park. Residents were able to browse from store to store supported by activities staff and had a chance to enjoy purchasing treats along with some essentials. They were able to select exactly what they wanted as independently as possible.

Residents were also of great assistance to the home as they helped select plants for the herb garden we are creating as part of our garden club, this will enable our in house chef to have a fresh supply of herbs .Rebekka Richardson of Ouse View said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their day out. Trips out in the homes mini bus are a regular event for the residents, and we always ask for ideas on where they would best like to go.
