Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

Dare to Dream

Here at Ouse View in Fulford we have a very special couple, husband and wife Christine and Tony. For some months now tony has told care staff he wants to be able to sit in a wheelchair and come out of his room and do everything he is able to do, alongside his wife. Until recently this has not been possible following illness Tony has not been strong enough however with his tenacious attitude and positivity he was not going to give up. Tony has been working with the care team and the visiting physio on building his strength in order to achieve his goal.

D day arrived Saturday 8th October 2022 Tony enjoyed a fabulous sunny  autumn afternoon side by side in the garden with his lovely wife. This was a very special moment for them and the team at Ouse View. “ I’m made up” said Christine. “I can’t believe it” said Tony, “I have been in bed for months.”  Tony continues to improve his strength and enjoy time doing a wider variety of activities with his wife as well as getting to meet other residents for the first time since his arrival at Ouse View.

Bingo!

Here at Ouse View the excitement begins as residents have eyes down to see who will be a lucky winner.

The concentration and anticipation is obvious as residents mark off their lucky numbers in turn.

Finally the celebrations begin when the winner is announced, residents cheer in excitement. "Bingo!"

Memory Lane

Here at Ouse view we are reaching out to our residents who prefer one to one social interaction.

We do this each week involving different people on each occasion, this really allows our residents to bloom in their own way.

This week Resident Jim has been extra creative and decorated a memory box which is full of pictures and items which are personal to him.

Juggling Fun

Residents are dazzled by Anna Semlyen and her juggling skills. Residents were captivated by the skill and dexterity in handling, plates, clubs, batons and hankies as well as the professional narration. Residents got involved demonstrating their own skills and confidence in ribbon twirling.

Ouse View making dreams come true

A wish comes true for Resident, Christine who had expressed her desire to revisit her favourite coffee shops and make a trip to the York Designer outlet, so staff at the home made her wish a reality!

Christine who has lived at the home for the past eight months with her husband, Tony was accompanied on the trip by her friends in the home and activity coordinators, Angie and Natasha.  Everyone involved were delighted to be a part of making her wish come true, as they knew how much it meant to her. They all wanted to be there to see the smile on Christine’s face! It was a wonderful day out!

Watch this space to see what wish is granted next….

Residents 'Dish of the Week'

Here at Ouse View we would like to show you our 'Dish of the Week' our Traditional Turkey Roast Dinner.

The Head Chef Sean Cawker whipped up the Yorkshire Puddings and lashings of Gravy for our Residents over lunch time, Wednesday this week.

We are passionate about nutrition and hydration here at Ouse View, over the coming winter months we aim to have lots of heart warming traditional foods on the menu for Residents to enjoy each and every bite!
