Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

Cheese and wine evening

At Ouse View, our residents created their own evening of social sophistication. Enjoying cheese and wine tasting.

The emotion that the opera brings is enjoyed by our audience, as our residents created a playlist selecting their favourite composers or symphony.

We raised a glass as we enjoyed our refreshments and each other's company.

Teamwork

Today at Ouse View our Residents cooking skills are called upon as we brew up tasty tea time treats. Residents love to be social and feel empowered by helping each other and doing things as independent as possible, staff are always here to support when needed.

A breath of fresh air

Here at Ouse View we love to walk on the wild side. With the spirit of adventure and the sun on their faces residents immerse themselves in the local flora and fauna. We stop to chat with passers by and become acquainted with their furry friends.

Remembering the Queen

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Ouse View care home in Fulford paid their respects to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, on the day of her funeral, 19 September 2022.  The whole home came together to honour and give thanks for the Queen’s long and extraordinary life of service to the British people and the Commonwealth over her 70 year reign, the longest of any British monarch.

Residents and staff watched the televised service that took place at Westminster Abbey and observed the national two minutes silence in memory of the late Queen before she was laid to rest in St George’s Chapel in Windsor.  After the ceremony, staff and residents discussed their memories of the Queen and Prince Philip, and what the royal family has meant to them over the years.  They reminisced about royal tours, the Queen’s many milestones and her constant presence in all her subjects’ lives over the last 70 years.

Music through the ages

Our homes had a brilliant time with curator Sarah Deters as she took us on a virtual ‘Music Through the Ages’ tour of St Cecilia’s Hall: Concert Room and Music Museum.

Our residents were thrilled to discover weird and wonderful musical instruments, hear their unusual sounds, and find out how instruments have changed over the last 500 years.

The virtual live event explored the world-renown collection of musical instruments on display at St Cecilia’s Hall, Scotland’s oldest concert hall.

Residents enjoy rickshaw ride

Cycling is a simple pleasure which most of us take for granted.  Residents of Ouse View in Fulford were excited to go on a tour around the local area on rickshaw, Trixie.  Trixie is a state of the art electric powered rickshaw, powered by a new project, York Cycling without Age that offers free bike rides.

Residents enjoyed the opportunity to get out and about with the wind in their hair taking in the sights and smells of the beautiful gardens which surround the home as they passed in their Trixie rickshaw. Residents were able to reminisce about learning to cycle, cycle rides as children and teaching their own children to cycle.

Staff were on hand to help guide residents in and out of the carriages, and waved them off on their trip into York.
