Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Residents at Ouse View are in a Royally reflective and patriotic mood today, in honour of the fact that our Queen came to the throne 70 years ago this weekend. Over coffee this morning they reminisced about her Coronation, the street parties they attended, and the early years of her reign, sharing their happy memories with staff and each other. Lunchtime got off to a magnificent start with a rousing rendition of the National Anthem and much enthusiastic flag waving. What a lovely prelude to our planned Platinum Jubilee celebrations this year!

Valentine's inspired cookery demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Chinese New Year

Residents at Ouse View have enjoyed a full and fun-packed Chinese New Year today as they celebrated the 'Year of the Tiger'.  We started the day taking in the sights of China with our armchair travels, with each traveller armed with a goody bag containing a selection of authentic Chinese sweets and snacks for the journey!

Our hospitality team then served a delicious Chinese lunch, that had the taste buds alight.  On each table there were 'Year of the Tiger' fortune scratch cards which revealed our year ahead, followed by traditional fortune cookies.  To end the day our arty-crafters pooled their talents to conjure up a beautiful Chinese Lantern Ball, which is now proudly displayed for all to admire.

A pudding fit for a Queen

Excitement is running high at Ouse View in Fulford where residents and staff have been cooking up a storm to enter the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pudding competition.  Details of the competition were announced on January 10th and the home immediately got busy to come up with, what they hope, will be a pudding fit for a Queen.

The competition is being run by Royal Warrant holders, Fortnum & Mason, to create a pudding that the whole nation can bake for themselves and that will be served not only at Jubilee parties up and down the country, but to the Queen herself to celebrate her 70 years on the throne.  Competition is fierce and only the best recipes will make it through to a live bake off judged by the Queen of Puddings herself, Dame Mary Berry, and Masterchef’s Monica Galetti in March.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and donned their aprons to come up with a scrumptious pudding that they think encapsulates the Queen’s reign and what it has meant to the nation. Their fabulous pudding is called the Queen’s Tipple Trifle Cake and consists of delicious ingredients such as cream, strawberries, special Gin and lots of love.

Noughts & Crosses and Coffee

Residents at Ouse View enjoyed some old time favourites today, challenging each other to Dominoes and Noughts & Crosses. Great fun was had by all especially when the coffee and cake arrived!

Home links with charitable foundation

Ouse View care home in Fulford, York is launching three grants totalling £30,000 in the name of a former Barchester resident, Jeanette Gill, who generously donated part of her legacy to Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.  The Foundation is calling for deserving local charities and community groups to apply for these special awards.

Named in her memory, the Jeanette Gill Special Awards are open to groups and individuals in need in our local community, and will be awarded to projects that enrich lives and encourage an active lifestyle through arts, music, sports and culture for older people
