Activities at Ouse View Care Home
We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.
We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.
Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Ouse View Care Home
Inside Cliveden
We were treated to an amazing live virtual talk and a tour of Cliveden, hosted by the house and chapel guides from the National Trust Talks Service.
The volunteers kindly gave us a tour around the famous house taking an in-depth look at Cliveden’s many stories from its 350 year history, from devilish dukes to scandalous headlines and boundary-breaking garden designs to political notoriety.
Starting with the Duke of Buckingham who built the first house in 1666, our residents met the key owners who helped shape the house and its gardens including the Orkney, Sutherland and Astor families.
The talk was accompanied by an illustrated presentation which brought to life these individuals and showed how their influence at Cliveden still continues today.
Milestone Birthday
Residents at Ouse View have been celebrating in style today to mark the great occasion of Peggy's 100th birthday.
Such a remarkable lady thoroughly deserved all our congratulations, and Residents and Staff ensured her party had plenty of fizz and sparkle! Friends and other Residents enjoyed a smorgasbord of canapes and sweet-treats, a spectacular birthday cake made by our Head Chef, Eve, a glass of bubbly and live music.
When asked what it is like to have reached this amazing milestone Peggy replied, "When I feel 100 years old I'll be able to tell you!".
We wish you many more Happy Returns Peggy!
Fun with Floral Flowers
This afternoon, Residents at Ouse View successfully completed stage 1 of a creative project to design and make pretty floral photograph frames.
Today we selected our preferred mounts and the spring flowers to adorn them. Then we arranged them carefully in our flower press where they will be kept safe to process for a week or so until they are ready for us to complete our works of natural art.
Our workspace was filled with beautiful floral fragrances, and we hope our finished frames will be equally beautiful!
St David's Day celebrations
Celebrations were under way at Barchester’s Ouse View care home, in Fulford, York, as residents and staff marked St. David’s Day.
The home was in high spirits as they celebrated the national day of Wales with a Sir Tom Jones sing-along session followed by a festive lunch, and topping off the afternoon baking traditional Welsh Cakes. In honour of the traditional feast day and the country’s patron saint, residents and staff were treated to traditional Welsh food and drink. Everyone tucked in to leek soup or fruit juice, Welsh lamb casserole or cheesy leek and potato pancake lasagne, and our homemade Welsh cakes.
Nescafe virtual experience
We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience. We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.
To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.
Is it Spring yet?
Residents here at Ouse View had a happy afternoon potting summer-flowering bulbs. They may not bloom until later in the year, but we already have a friendly competition in progress to see who has planted the best Freesias and Crocosmias. A little light rain and plenty of sunshine would be welcome please!
