Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Therapy pets and dolls at Ouse View

Residents of Ouse View have been enjoying robotic pets and spending some quality time with their therapy dolls who resemble newborn babies. They have been sharing stories of their own children and favourite pet names. Pauline Hodgson, General Manager said: “The robotic pets and dolls are greatly loved by all of the residents and give a nice sense of belonging and peacefulness in the home and it is great so see our residents interacting with them”

Exercising the body & mind

Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Ouse View.   Today was a fun-filled armchair aerobics session.

Every got really competitive, everyone wanted to beat each other and Residents really got into the event.

As part of the homes life enrichment programme, the activities coordinators include firm favourites in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment!

Love is in the air at Ouse View

Love was in the air at Ouse View celebrated St Valentine’s Day.  The home was filled with flowers, cards and sweets and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart shaped decorations to decorate the home and baking heart shaped shortbread biscuits for all to enjoy.

General Manager, Pauline Hodgson said: “It’s been a very different Valentine’s Day but we’ve all had a lovely day nonetheless. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either using our visiting suite or on a video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”

Home celebrate Chinese New Year

Staff and residents at Ouse View welcomed in the Year of the Ox with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, the home was decorated with hanging lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year.  The homes hospitality team cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with pots of Chinese tea.

Pauline Hodgson,  General Manager said: “We have had a brilliant day, the home looks absolutely wonderful decorated all in red and we all had such fun finding out what animal we are, the associated traits and reading each other’s horoscopes.  The residents loved watching videos of traditional lion and dragon dances too.

It's show time!

Friday afternoon is movie matinee time at Ouse View, and today the home’s very own Nickelodeon screened Agatha Christie’s 1964 “Murder Ahoy”, starring Dame Margaret Rutherford. Residents queued patiently, but excitedly, as Care Assistants Helen Woolford and Kath Calpin did a fantastic job as usherettes, issuing tickets, showing patrons to their seats, and offering concessions during the intermission. Of course, we could just pop a DVD in the player, but where’s the fun in that? It’s all about the experience.

Residents enjoy a little pamper

Residents today enjoyed a relaxing and pampering manicure session courtesy of Ouse View staff to help them feel even more beautiful. The manicures included hand massages, exfoliation, cuticle treatment, buffing, and an application of nail polish.

Manicures were available, if required, for the gentlemen as well as the ladies, and were provided with tea, coffee and cake. As the saying goes, "There’s nothing a fresh manicure can’t fix!"
