Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home

St David's Day

Celebrations were under way as residents marked St. David’s Day.

The home was in high spirits as they celebrated the national day of Wales with Welsh flags and daffodil decorations in the lounge, the residents enjoyed a welsh quiz and learning to count to 10 in welsh which was led by one on the residents who herself is welsh. In honour of the traditional feast day and the country’s patron saint, residents and staff were treated to traditional Welsh food and drink.  Everyone tucked in to welsh cakes.

Leaping into action

Embracing the rare occurrence of Leap Year, the staff and residents at the home leaped into a day of jubilant festivities, crafting biscuits shaped like frogs and engaging in spirited games of frog hop, all to celebrate this extra day on the calendar.

In the spirit of the occasion, the care home buzzed with excitement as residents and staff embarked on a culinary adventure, moulding biscuit dough into adorable frog shapes and delighting in the creative process. The air was filled with laughter and camaraderie as they shared memories and cherished recipes while concocting their froggy treats.

Interwined tales and creative expressions

Residents at Ouse View, a cherished care home in Fulford, were treated to a day of heartfelt connection and creative expression as they welcomed volunteers from Minds in Motion, an esteemed community initiative led by passionate students from the University of York, aimed at supporting individuals living with dementia.

On Wednesday, 22nd of February, the halls of Ouse View buzzed with excitement as students from Minds in Motion brought their energy and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of the residents. The afternoon kicked off with a lively quiz session, carefully curated to evoke cherished memories and stimulate the minds of our beloved residents. Laughter echoed through the corridors as residents and volunteers bonded over trivia and shared tales of yesteryears.

Love is in the air for Valentines!

Ouse View was filled with flowers, hearts, and sweets as it celebrated St. Valentine’s Day. Staff and residents marked the day of love by crafting heart-shaped decorations to adorn the home, arranging floral centrepieces, and indulging in a delightful Valentine’s afternoon tea. And to cap off the festivities, residents enjoyed a memorable evening serenaded by the talented singer Julie Fox.

General Manager Rebekka Richardson remarked, “We’ve had a wonderful day relishing a special afternoon tea meticulously prepared by our chefs. Many of our residents had the joy of reconnecting with their loved ones, either in person or through video calls. Everyone eagerly awaited the evening performance by the singer Julie Fox!”

Roses are Red, Violets are Blue

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Ouse View care home in Fulford were treated to an interactive virtual Valentine’s table decorating masterclass, courtesy of talented master florist, Kathryn Delve.

Kathryn is an independent florist based in Somerset, she specialises in creating unique wedding and event flowers, all sourced from her local flower farm.  She takes much of her inspiration for her displays from the beautiful scenery that surrounds her home and the changing seasons and colours.

During the workshop, residents were invited to join Kathryn to make beautiful Valentine’s-themed table decorations. The displays will be used to decorate the home ready for Valentine’s Day celebrations.

A walk on the wild side

Ouse View care home, in Fulford, was full of animal mischief on Tuesday when the DB Animal Therapy mobile zoo came to visit the home.

Residents at Ouse View were pleasantly surprised to see animals such as rabbit, guinea pig, turtle, hedgehog, snakes, bearded dragon, chameleon and a tarantula roaming around their lounge as DB Animal Therapy paid a visit.
