Activities at Ouse View Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.
We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.
Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Ouse View Care Home

Home marks the anniversary of D-Day landings
Ouse View Care Home in Fulford York marked the 80th anniversary of the D Day Landings by having a D-Day discussion where residents retold their stories of what they can remember about D-Day, an ultimate World War II quiz and then an afternoon to remember by having a indoor picnic with the local community and soldiers from the Queen's Own Yeomanry.
Staff and residents were interested to see memorabilia that the soldiers brought in for the residents to look at, Cpl Hawkins and LCP Dixon brought it two guns, WWII uniform including a jacket, helmet and gas mask, and a grenade. The residents were in awe after seeing these items again and holding guns. The two gentleman even brought in a bottle or port to share with the residents and staff.
Rebekka, General Manager at Ouse View said: “Many of our residents can remember the D Day Landings and we all know what it meant for our country so we wanted to mark the date, with an afternoon to remember, listening to the stories of our residents and enjoying the memorabilia with the local community.

Wonders of the ocean
Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.
Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.
It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.

Residents enjoy live entertainment
Residents and guests enjoyed a night of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local singer John Kellow performed a selection of classic hits including Sweet Caroline, Evis Presley, Buddy Holly and lots lots more.
Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the band performed their finale song Sweet Caroline. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet and savoury treats for guests including a cheese board and brownies to enjoy during the show.

Bake sale raises money for charity
Residents and staff put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ with a charity bake sale and staff non-uniform / pyjamas day to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. Staff and the head chef spent hours baking beautiful buns and cakes for the cake sale. The bake sale managed to raise £200.20 for our charity.
Rebekka, General Manager said: “We love to fundraise for charities throughout the year, we pick different causes to support that have been selected by staff, residents and friends of the home. Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a great cause that helps many people in need and is also a cause very close to the hearts of all our staff and residents, so we feel really proud to have been able to raise this money. Thank you to everyone who donated!”

Musical performance with Sam Bennett
Residents enjoyed an afternoon of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local singer and musician Sam Bennet performed a selection of folk songs including Kum by ya, down by the river side and The Saints go marching in as well as She’ll be coming round the mountain. He also played the guitar, banjo and ukulele.
Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the band performed their finale song Heartbeat by Buddy Holly. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet and savoury treats for guests to enjoy during the show.

Dementia Action Week
Residents and staff marked Dementia Action Week which took place from 13 – 19 May. Dementia Action Week kicked off to a great start with a Therapy dog Ted, the residents enjoyed lots of singing throughout the week with their very own dementia friendly choir and the lovely Dunnington choir came to visit on world cocktail day. The residents enjoyed a Bellini or two. The residents enjoyed a laughter with yoga session and of course the live Barchester event to Cadbury world where we reminisce with the memory boxes given by Cadburys, they enjoyed lots of chocolate. Half way through the week they had a morning full of games and a very entertaining dog show by the Star Paws Training Company who brought 3 dogs it to show them tricks. Towards the back of the week residents were entertained by making puff paint rainbows. What a week they have had
