Activities at Ouse View Care Home
We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.
We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.
Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Life at Ouse View Care Home
Residents have fun on Circus Day
Residents and staff celebrated national circus day in style by enjoying a afternoon of grins with a live circus skills performance that took place at the home. Circus with Stu from Circus Skills York performed tricks such as juggling, plate spinning and balloon bobbing.
Stu showed the residents how to do certain tricks and then asked them to have a go. The best and most exciting act was definitely the plate spinning, the residents had a lot of fun doing this.
General Manager, Rebekka Richardson said, “Our residents and staff had a wonderful day joining in with the circus skills, it was lovely to see the joy on their faces while plate spinning. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at Ouse View as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this was one of our favourites!”
Come sing!
Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy.
Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles.
Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
Hat's off for the races!
Residents and staff at Ouse View have dressed to impress, donned their best hats and outfits, studied the form and had their bets at the ready for their very own 2024 Grand National themed evening prior to the big day!.
Residents and staff got together to compete with each other to try and get their horse round the track and to the finish line first, and celebrated in style by having sausage rolls and brownies made by our talented chefs. Residents also enjoyed wearing race day hats.
Vintage songbird
Residents and guests at Ouse View enjoyed an afternoon of nostalgia with a live Vintage Vocalist performance that took place at the home. Vintage vocalist, Paula Marie, graced the stage and serenaded the audience with a selection of timeless tunes including "Downtown" by Petula Clark, "Catch a Falling Star" by Perry Como, and "Side by Side" by Kay Starr. To honour the legendary Doris Day on her birthday, residents joined Paula Marie in singing "Que sera, sera".
Residents enthusiastically joined in with the singing, tapping their feet and clapping along as Paula Marie performed her finale song, "Thank You for the Music". One of the highlights of the afternoon was when one of our residents had a dance with Paula Marie, much to the delight of everyone present, with residents cheering and clapping in appreciation.
Inside the Factory
We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.
Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.
The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.
Beat the Clock
We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.
Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.
Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
