Activities at Paternoster House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Paternoster House Care Home

Day Trip to Van Hage Garden Centre
Our residents love getting out and about!
This week we enjoyed a day trip to the Blue Diamond Garden at Van Hage Great Amwell, Ware for a browse around its treasure-trove of plants, landscaped gardens and exciting shops for inspirational ideas to improve Paternoster Houses extensive gardens.
Gardener; Brian provided us all with a mountain of knowledge on each plant/bulb and taking lunch in their lovely cafe was just the ticket to top of a wonderful day.

Dance, Arts & Crafts for Open Day
This weekend we brightened up winter by celebrating our homes Open Day in conjunction with International Flower Day.
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together to enjoy an open day full of flower themed arts and craft activities including paper flower basket making. The homes hospitality team provided our guests with delicious homemade nibbles to savour and we were joined by Dennis One Man Stand with for an afternoon full of song and dance!
Keeping with the flower theme Dennis had us all singing songs like 'Build Me Up Buttercup' and 'San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair)' and many more. Alongside his usual classics, all of which his backing singer resident; Violet and others could sing along to!
Staff made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see so many new people visit our beautiful home.
Corina Popescu, General Manager at the home, said: “Staff at Paternoster House are dedicated to making sure that the home is a hub of the local community, and this event, along with all the amazing themed activities and entertainment made it a wonderful day for all involved.”

Sensory and Colourful Activities & Exercise
Paternoster House has been a rainbow of colourful activities and exercise all week. Starting with ‘The Parachute’ which is a great exercise activity for seniors as the participants don’t realise, they are giving their upper body a good workout because they are having so much fun!
For those who didn’t wish to join in, our activities team provided them with a sensory experience using the vibrant fabric book which is full of different textures for our touch senses to explore.
On Friday Glenn Bowers Health and fitness joined us and added more colour to his session with an array of floaty scarfs that our residents enjoyed waving and throwing into the air before catching them… mostly on the faces!

Visit to Waltham Cross Market
This week we took a little trip to Waltham Cross Market.
Resident; Len enjoyed exploring the town and shops within the Pavilion before taking time for tea and an iced bun. He was fascinated by the ‘Four Swans’ that sit on a wooden frame that crosses the High Street.
Apparently, they are all that remains of a former pub and hotel which was one of the original "post houses" set up in the 1500s. The building was demolished in the late 1960s to make way for the Pavilion shopping centre and multi storey car park!

Join us for weekly arts, crafts and baking sessions
We support our residents in continuing their hobbies and daily lifestyle preferences. Recently our residents got crafty making miniature bobble hats from card and wool. They were all very impressed with the outcome and proud to have mastered their pom-pom making skills.
One of their favourite activities is baking club. Our little group love all the mixing, rolling and cutting out. Most of all they love eating their home-made bakes with afternoon tea! Everyone agreed their chocolate-chip cookies were delicious.
We have plenty of opportunities for the local community to join any of our activities. Please contact our activities team to receive regular updates on planned activities and events

Coffee Morning at Waltham Abbey Fire Station
A few residents had the pleasure of attending the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service coffee morning in Waltham Abbey earlier this week. It was a fabulous opportunity for them to engage with new people over light refreshments, made extra special with an inspection of their engine. Resident; Diane confirmed... 'It's all good to go!'
Remaining part of the local community is so important to all those living, and working at Paternoster House care home.
We love meeting new people and invite any members of the community to join us at our weekly Coffee & Chat Mornings which take place every Friday from 10.30am - 12 noon.
