Activities at Paternoster House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Festive Flower Arranging

This week our residents were treated to an interactive floristry masterclass with Activities Coordinator, Cathy Knowles.

Cathy explained step by step how to prepare the oasis and each flower. Using red roses, festive accessories and foraged greenery our residents enjoyed choosing their personal combinations.

One by one they started to select and build their centre piece creations. Everyone enjoyed seeing the amazing displays come to life!

General Manager, Corina Popescu, said: “It was wonderful to see the interaction between Cathy and our residents during the flower arranging session, our residents were happy and engaged throughout. It was a really enjoyable afternoon.”

Activities Coordinator, Cathy said: “My job is so rewarding, I look forward to using my previous experience, and crafting skills to develop a varied and life enriching programme, that keeps our residents active; physically, mentally and socially.”

Community Cafe - Delta Marriot Hotel

Our weekly Coffee Morning last Friday was sponsored by  Marriott Bonvoy Delta Hotels in Waltham Abbey as an act of kindness and a way of them giving back to the local community.

The team, including General Manager; Khaled Homsi, Maintenance Manager; Matt Brown, Head Chef; Richard Challapan and Senior Event Manager; Victoria Rolle provided an array of fresh cakes courtesy of the hotels hospitality team and spent the morning meeting, and speaking to our residents whilst hand delivering the fabulous cakes around the home.

It was such a wonderful surprize and very much appreciated by the home. In addition, Khaled has donated a prize for our Christmas raffle of 'Tea for Two' at the hotel - thank you again for your hospitality and gifts.

Pie & Mash for International Men's Day

Regularly popping out for coffee, pub lunches, mini-bus trips, and other outings is an essential part of our weekly activity calendar alongside our general in-house activities and events program.

Today we combined two celebrations; 'International Men's Day' and resident; Edward's 91st birthday with a trip to a traditional Pie & Mash Shop located in Waltham Abbey, Essex.

Tony’s Pie & Mash Shop is a family run business, established 25 years ago. It was the perfect location for Edward and several of his Paternoster pals to dine!

With a splash of Tony's homemade chilli vinegar our gentleman thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful and were super surprised to be joined at the table by 'Tony' himself!

For the gentlemen unable to join us on this trip our activities team spent time doing 1:1 sensory activities in their rooms. We're one big family at Paternoster House, if you, or a loved one are considering care please feel free to attend any of the listed events.

World Kindness Day

Today we focused on 'Kindness' and what it means to our residents, staff and community in recognition of Kindness Day.

We got involved in a variety of activities throughout the day, our residents enjoyed creating a board full of memories and quotes with their hands in a circle to represent unity in kindness around the world.

They wrote personal messages and words of wisdom, Resident Doreen said "It doesn't costs much to be nice" and once complete, Angie took the board around each community to show staff and residents to make them smile and remind everyone to always be kind.

Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday is a day to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.

During the week, our residents enjoyed putting a remembrance display together, with their own handmade wreaths and poppies. One of residents’ wives; Christine added to the display with several original heart-warming letters from the frontline soldiers.

Resident; Patricia took a trip to Waltham Abbey church to hang one of our handmade wreaths on behalf of all at Paternoster House and on Monday, we took time to remember in silence at 11:11 in honour of all who have died in the line of duty.

Act of Kindness Singer

One of the cornerstones of our life enrichment program is live musical entertainment and, last Thursday our friends from Daniel Robinson & Sons provided the entertainment; singer Roland Stimpson as an 'Act of Kindness' to our residents.

It was a wonderful afternoon, Roland had us all up singing and dancing together and we can't thank Daniel Robinson & Son's enough for their generous gift.
