Activities at Pentland View Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Outings

At Babs’ request, we took a trip to the cinema to watch the new Bridget Jones Film. She and Wilma enjoyed it a great deal, with Wilma saying, “I could sit and watch it all again!”

We also had a ladies' lunch at the Park hotel, with Sandra, Isabella Kay, and Jane enjoying a lovely two-course meal and great conversation.

Valentine's Tea Dance

Residents, staff and visitors were treated to an old-fashioned tea dance in celebration of love in all of its forms.

Drinking tea and coffee from the lovely china sets that the residents shopped for themselves, and munching on tasty treats provided by the chef, everyone had a lovely time while listening to good tunes and taking photos in the photo booth! Of course, we also had a good boogie, too!

World Storytelling Day

In recognition of World Storytelling Day, the P6 class from Pennyland Primary school visited to read some of their favourite stories to the residents in both lounges, and in some of the residents’ rooms. This was enjoyed by children and adults alike.

We have really forged a lovely connection with Pennyland Primary School and look forward to their next visit.

Burns celebrations at Pentland

Pentland View prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipe tunes and the fun continued well into the night.

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities, including arranging displays of “red red roses,” a Burns Night themed quiz, and a wonderful display from some of the dancers from Tanya Horne’s School of Highland Dance to mark the Scottish institution. Willie Bain gave the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding race’ – the haggis, having great fun showing off his haggis stabbing skills!

Thurso Community Cafe Visit

Isabella T, Marion, Sandra, and Willie B recently enjoyed a visit to Thurso’s Community Café for a cuppa and some cakes.

The café runs purely off of donations and volunteers and is a place that anyone can go to find a welcome and a great cuppa and tasty food.

After sampling the coffee, tea, and cakes, we all agreed that we needed to visit again and try lunch next time! They all said that the café was lovely, the people were friendly (we always run into familiar faces when out and about!), and the size of the cups of tea and coffee were huge!

While there, the café was also visited by Jarvis the lovely cocker spaniel, and a therapet. The residents enjoyed giving him a treat and a pat.

Flower Arranging

We have been very lucky lately with donations of flowers from the local community.

The residents always enjoy flowers in their rooms, and we received potted plants as well as bouquets!

As you can imagine, the rooms and corridors of the home have been cheered up greatly by all of these flowers. Seen here, the ladies separate some of the bouquets to make arrangements of their own.
