Activities at Pentland View Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Pentland View Care Home

Bowls -v- Seaview

We have recently found ourselves taking a trip to Sea View for games of bowls against the residents in our sister home. On our visit there, Team Pentland won the day! In return, Sea View paid us a visit the following week and we enjoyed more games of bowls, with the teams mixed between the homes.

It was great fun and especially enjoyed as some of our residents have been keen bowlers over the years! We look forward to continuing our friendly rivalry with Sea View with future visits back and forth, and hopefully extending to do far more activities together with our friends in the future!

Crafting in Memory Lane

Residents in our Memory Lane unit enjoy doing various crafts and activities that let their creative juices flow! Here they are working with flowers foraged locally and creating beautiful works of art with them. The finished product looks a lot like stained glass and preserves the dried flowers beautifully.

They look fantastic displayed in their rooms and around the home. Some were even gifted to family to take home with them. What lovely keepsakes!

National Fish & Chip Day

We will be doing a takeaway night for small groups of residents each month and kicked it off with a chippy tea in recognition of National Fish and Chips day! Residents, Alec, Willie B, Sandra, Rena, Ann, Gail and Barry very much enjoyed their fish and chips from local chippie, Big Fish Little Fish in a Cardboard Box. They all opted for fish suppers and as you can see, were very happy with their choices. There weren’t many left-overs, that’s for sure! Most had the in-house fish and chips for lunch as well. I guess it’s true what they say…you can’t get too much of a good thing! Our takeaway evenings will continue in July with the next group’s choice of takeaway evening.

Cook Off 2024

Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.  Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.

A trip back in time...

Residents enjoyed a trip back in time while visiting the North Coast Visitor Centre and Museum on Friday past. They rounded off the trip with a walk across the road to enjoy a cuppa and cake at Rosie’s Café. Residents were able to spend the afternoon walking amongst the museum’s exhibits, and even managed to learn a few new things! Of particular interest were the Dounreay exhibits as well as the old stones and Viking history.

Marion Owen, a resident said: “What a wonderful place! It’s so lovely to get out and about!” Residents even ran in to familiar faces while out and about in tthe town and enjoyed chatting with friend old and new.

Keeping fit with Zumba

Residents and staff at Pentland View laced up their trainers and warmed-up for a session of seated Zumba curtesy of Zumba with Steph.

Staff and residents decided to try something new on Wednesday the 26th and warmed up for a session of seated Zumba. Stephanie Harper, who runs the sessions, led residents, guests and staff through thirty minutes of movement in the Zumba style, but tailored to people with limited or poor mobility. The tunes were great and spirits high, and many voices were heard singing along.
