Activities at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home
At Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home, our Lifestyle/Activities staff endeavour to provide a wide range of activities that suit all residents' physical and mental needs. There are regular minibus trips to nearby places of interest, including visits to local beaches and shows. We also have a film club, gentlemen's club, arts and crafts club, with musical entertainment once a week. Activities are very important to the staff of Plas-Y-Dderwen, making the home a fun and active place for all the residents who live here.
Lisa Peart
Hello, I am Lisa and I have recently joined the team at Plas y Dderwen. I have worked in the care sector since 2009 and I have a passion for working with people.
Although I am new to this role, I have always enjoyed being creative and bringing a smile and a sense of joy to others.
I am looking forward to developing an Activities programme that will bring enrichment to residents' lives through meaningful Activities.

Life at Plas-Y-Dderwen Care Home
Celebrating Easter
Plas y Dderwen celebrated Good Friday in style, with entertainment from Robbie Lee, our residents enjoyed singing along and we even had some dancing too!
We had invited in the local community to help with our raffle draw and also for the local children to get involved in and Easter Egg Hunt. We then finished off the afternoon with Carmarthenshire Party Ponies and Therapy Pets who brought in their wonderful Giant Rabbits and Guinea pigs. All residents and visitors really enjoyed spending time with the animals.
Comic Relief & St. Patrick's Day
On Friday 17th March, our home got together to celebrate St,Patrick’s Day and raise money for comic relief.
We had a morning of fun and games and an afternoon filled with bingo, a quiz and name that tune. Our Activities assistant Emma took on the challenge of a 6 hour sponsored silence and raised £125 for charity. We had such a fun day bringing residents and staff together.
St David's Day was our day to celebrate all things Welsh!
We raised the Welsh Flags and scattered daffodils everywhere and invited the children of Johnstown Primary School to celebrate with us.
We were treated to two performances during the day of Welsh singing and dancing from the two Reception classes and the residents enjoyed talking with the children afterwards.
Then we had another visitor in the form of the amazing Robbie Lee! Robbie treated us to a Welsh songs, songs from Welsh singers and some folk songs. We all loved singing along with Robbie and he put on such a fantastic show today with the Welsh theme.
Our chef Simon and his team prepared traditional Lamb Cawl and Rarebit today and Welsh Cakes were served through all communities.
Pub Quiz and Sky the Ferret
It was a very busy day at Plas-Y-Dderwen. Carer Leon, kindly bought in his ferret Sky to meet the residents and the team. Sky was very gentle and greatly enjoyed meeting everyone as did we. The then enjoyed our Friday pub quiz in our very own pub with drinks and nibbles!
Happy St Dwynwen's Day
Dydd Santes Dwynwen Hapus!
Saint Dwynwen is the Welsh patron saint of lovers. We welcomed some very special visitors, year 1 class from Johnstown Primary School. The children made beautiful cards with the residents along with heart shaped pictures. Colin also played his harmonica for the childrenWhat a delight the children were and they really did bring smiles all round.
An Introduction to Crystals
The Plas-Y-Dderwen Actvities Coordinator has a personal interest in crystals and thought it would be something the residents would find interesting and she was absolutely right. The group of residents were fascinated to learn about the power of crystals and their meaning. They created a crystal mandala which is a symetrical and spiritual symbol.
