Activities at Queens Manor Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Shannon Cullen
Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.
I ensure that myself and the team get to know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home - Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.
In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way. Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home
Shirts, shorts & shades
Thank you to everyone who came and got involved with our themed day and BBQ - what fun we have had!
With food being provided by our head chef, activities flowing all day - from the coffee morning, time out together, Friday drinks, an impromptu ballet lesson from Rosemary - plenty of bright, colourful clothes and ridiculous outfits - there was plenty of laughter and smiles all around!
Mayfair of Nightingales
Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.
We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas. The experience was truly enjoyed by all.
A dog is for life
Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.
Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.
Time Out Together
We are delighted to share with you our latest initiative - our outdoor project around accessing the outdoor space of Queens Manor.
This has now been running behind the scenes for 4 weeks - and what success we have seen so far!
Through resident and relative feedback we found that more residents requiring assistance at Queens Manor would like more regular/structured access to the outdoors - from here we worked closely with Jennifer Newman from the Quality Improvement & Standards for Care Homes and Primary Care Settings team from the NHS to first research ways we can offer this, risk assess and implement.
Not only does this highly benefit residents, but it promotes staff to have more social time with residents, get some fresh air and remind themselves why they choose to do what they do.
Each Monday and Friday at 2.30pm we will stop all non-essential business and have fun outdoors!
There will be refreshments available and an outdoor activity for each session. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in.
We are very excited about this initiative and can’t wait watch it develop over the coming months!
New Outdoor Space
We are absolutely delighted that our newly designed balcony outside the dining room on the first floor is being used and loved already.
With the addition of new planters, trellises, artificial flowers and some sensory butterflies, it really is the perfect spot to relax!
International Beer Day
Did you know that humans all over the world drink over 50 million gallons of beer each year ?!!
Today we celebrated international beer day with a glorious beer tasting in the garden!
With 6 beers to choose from, from a variety of countries, offering lots of different flavours - it was a great success !
This was topped off with a quiz surrounding the great drink!
