Activities at Queens Manor Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Shannon Cullen
Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.
I ensure that myself and the team get to know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home - Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.
In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way. Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home
Garden Centre Antics
Ladies recently enjoyed a day trip to Dobbies garden centre in Midlothian – With a look around the shops and a bite to eat in the café being a must. The Christmas décor section was a particular favourite to look around – with bauble of all different shapes, themes and textiles – it was a brilliant sensory adventure too!
Congratulations
Massive congratulations to Sam, Jewel and Silji who have all recently passed their SVQ’s! We are all super proud of you !
Let's go sailing!
Another week, another trip down the canal! We have been loving the trips down on the Ratho canal boats - services provided by Seagull Trust Ratho. heading off at 11am, stopping for lunch at the viaduct and then returning back to land at 2pm!
We were lucky enough to have some entertainment at lunch too - with some school children doing some paddle boarding team building !
Moments like this
David hosted his wife Dorothy for a special anniversary dinner celebrating their 27th year of being married. Congratulations to you both
Fringe Cares Festival
Residents of 4 Barchester Care Homes in Edinburgh are first to take part in the “Fringe Cares Festival” – a new project aimed at maintaining community links and enriching residents within the Edinburgh area. For many senior adults who live in care homes it is often impossible to attend the world’s largest arts festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Therefore, this year, Edinburgh Festival Fringe performers are bringing music from the 76 year old arts festival to four care homes in the city of Edinburgh – Queens Manor Care Home, Archview Lodge Care Home, Drummond Grange Care Home and Strachan House Care Home.
The initial idea was thought, planned and scheduled in 2022, with the final concept and performance being launched at the founding home – Queens Manor. From the amazing feedback received by residents, staff, relatives and visitors it was then decided to open up the event to the other three homes in 2023 & what a success it has been.
A little time outdoors
If there’s one thing we love, it’s being outside! as such, at Queens Manor we look forward to our daily walking club!
