Activities at Queens Manor Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Shannon Cullen
Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.
I ensure that myself and the team get to know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home - Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.
In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way. Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home
Therapy Ponies
Today we had Therapy Ponies Scotland in Queens Manor, we were join by two Shetland ponies: Wilson and Flicker. Queens Manor's resident Ian said ”I am really taken by this. Can the ponies stay overnight ?”
This was felt by all, it was a truly extraordinary visit. The ponies went from room to room to meet at the residents of Queens Manor. Later we were joined by two beautiful Newfoundland dogs, Winston and Arthur who were bigger than their pony brothers.
We hope to see them again soon, maybe during the winter when they have their long coat of hair.
Special 100th Birthday Celebration
The day started with great excitement as Christine received her telegram from the Queen. She was trilled but the celebrations didn’t stop there. We had a surprise instore for Christine. The lifestyle team at Queens Manor had been working on a birthday extravaganza.
We had 100 Highland dancers come and dance for Christine’s birthday. She was a highland dancer herself from a very young age. STV came into capture the special moment the surprise was revealed to Christine.
We had dancers from all over the world: Texas, Canada, Australia and from right here in Edinburgh. It was a fantastic day that was enjoy by all of Queens Manor.
Scottish National Air Show
On the 27th of July one of our residents Andrew was honoured at the Scottish National Air Show. He was invited by the RAF Benevolent fund and the Scottish Flight museum along with two other gentlemen, Arthur and Alistair who also served in the Airforce during WW2.
We were given a tour around the museum by 4 serving RAF Pilots. The day was fantastic topped off by watching planes at the air show.
Cocktail Party
At Queens Manor we love nothing more than a party, so last week we decided to throw a cocktail one. Music and drinks all around. We tried out some classic cocktails…then we got creative and started making our own signature drinks.
Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon and we will make sure that we have more cocktail parties in the future.
Festival Theatre
Last week we went to a festival theatre. All residents loved going along for an afternoon of dances and entertainment. We often get invited to the festival theatre and it's always a fantastic day out. Residents also enjoyed afternoon tea and cakes.
Professional Breakfast
On the last Tuesday of each month Queens Manor holds a professional breakfast. Staff and residents invite the local community into the home to network professionally and to enjoy a breakfast at Queens Manor. There is wide selection of pastries, cereal, fruits and cooked breakfast provided. Come along to the next breakfast on 30th of July.
