Activities at Queens Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen

Senior Head of Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.

I ensure that myself and the team get to  know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home -  Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.

In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way.   Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Meeting the Neighbours

After a very busy open day, we invited our neighbours to come and join us for an evening of champagne and canapés

A lot of our neighbours have watched Queens Manor get built from the ground up, so we wanted to give them a chance to see the inside as well.

Our Head Chef, Craig, made delicious canapés with a selection of homemade scones and chutneys, in addition to delicious brownies and vanilla fudge.

We loved having our neighbours in to look around and learn about the home.

We have different events happening over the coming months and would love to see more of our neighbours, so please feel free to come in, have a look around and meet our team.

Show Suite Opening

Deputy Lord Left Lieutenant of Edinburgh, Edward Green, recently unveiled the brand new show luxury suites. Assisted by Divisional Director, Fiona Moncur, and some members of the Queens Manor team, Mr. Green had lots of fun cutting the ribbon with a giant pair of scissors.

The show suite here at Queens Manor was fitted out by Barchester’s team of expert interior designers, and provides the local community with an opportunity to see what the finished 60-bed care home will look like when the build is complete. The show suite features spacious en-suite bedrooms and a lounge, as well as a large assisted bathroom, all designed with the comfort of residents in mind.

The home will also include a café and private dining room, a cinema and activities room, concierge service, en-suite bedrooms with garden access for ground floor rooms, as well as a life enrichment programme of tailored activities, seasonal menus and an in-house hair salon.
