Activities at Queens Manor Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Shannon Cullen
Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.
I ensure that myself and the team get to know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home - Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.
In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way. Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home
Master Florist tutorial
Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!
Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own. Residents truly enjoyed the experience.
From the Manor Gone
2024 is bringing lots of exciting things to QM, including more episodes of ”From the Manor Gone”. Where we speak to our residents & try to make their largest desire a reality.
This is Audrey, her brother in law (Tom) and sister (Elaine) - Audrey is a very familiar face around the care home and expressed to use that she hadn’t been down to her sister’s house in 5 years and would love to visit again, however feared it would be too far.
Upon hearing this, we swooped into action… defrosted the minibus, loaded the snack bags and whisked Audrey away to the small Scottish Borders town of Kelso, where she spend the day reminiscing, laughing and spending time with her family.
Audrey said “The day was amazing & I loved it - my favourite part of the day was chatting to my sister and Tom about all the things we used to get up to when we were young - and the lunch, Elaine makes a good Pavlova!”
Neigh-way!
You all know how much we love animals at QM!
So you can imagine how a visit from 2 larger furry friends went - meet Reggie and Lexi!
What a delight it was to have these 2 beautiful creatures around the grounds. They even went to a few patio doors to say hello to those who didn’t want to come outside .
Fitcare Scotland
Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health and that’s why each week we have an in-house exercise class ran by the wonderful team at FitCare Scotland!
Since the classes started last May, every resident that regularly takes part has seen an improvement in their strength & times exercise movements!
Well done everyone!
National Activity Providers & Professionals Week
It’s National Activity Providers and Professionals week and a perfect opportunity to thank our amazing Activities team here at Queens Manor.
Thank you to Clarissa, Shannon and Erika for all you do for our residents. From activities, events in house, outings and trips, there is always something going on.
Happy Burns Everyone!
Burns, who was born in Alloway, Ayrshire in 1759, is Scotland's national poet and well-known globally for some of his fine writing!
We have had a blast at QM celebrating with a traditional Rabbies Day feast of haggis, neeps & tatties, followed by a great accordion Scottish sing along led by our friend Bernie Hewitt!
Thank you to all the staff for making this day a success all round! Keep your eyes peeled for our address to the haggis!
