Activities at Rivermead Care Home
We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.
Nicola Bedford
Hi, My name is Nicola and I am the activity coordinator for Rivermead. I plan and deliver a range of interactive and stimulating activities throughout the week for all the residents.
We focus our planning through person centred care, meaning the activities we deliver are tailored to each of the residents individual choice and interests.
It’s a very rewarding job role to be in, seeing the residents enjoy their lives to the best of their abilities and enhancing their experiences, building and maintaining friendships and supporting their wellbeing.

Life at Rivermead Care Home
Love Is In The Air
Residents at Rivermead expressed a wish to create something special for the homes receptionist, Sarah to remember on her special day. They did just that with the help of activities coordinator, Angela in creating a beautiful wedding tree for guests to hang their best wishes on for the happy couple.
The tree was decorated with a romantic theme of love feather hearts and pearls and was displayed at the wedding reception at Malton Old Lodge for everyone to see. Everyone is eagerly waiting to see the wedding photos.
Angela, activities coordinator said: “It was so meaningful and rewarding to see all our Residents enjoying themselves on creating the tree for Sarah’s most romantic day of the year. It was lovely to see our Residents create something special for Sarah and Steven”.
Birthday Celebrations
We celebrated Renee’s 90th birthday recently. Refreshments were prepared and she had a lovely time!
Sewing for Fun
Residents enjoyed a lively craft session at Rivermead as they get more and more adventurous with each art and craft session that is hosted at the home. This session brought their creative skills together as they made colourful bunting to display at future events they look to host.
The home's arts and crafts is proving popular and is bringing everyone together, even just for a cup of tea and a good old chat. Art and crafts for the elderly have been proven countless times to increase cognitive stimulation and dexterity.
Summer Fete Brings the Community Together.
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Rivermead to enjoy a summer fete that was held in the home’s grounds on 17th August. Rivermead hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including tombola, raffles, a selection of stalls, games and delicious cakes served which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.
Residents and staff made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments, such as cold drinks, tea & coffee and lots of delicious home-made cakes prepared by the catering team, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!
Trip to Hutton le Hole
On Tuesday 16th July we packed a lovely picnic basket and headed off to the North Yorkshire Moors, a place called Hutton le Hole where we were surrounded by beautiful scenery.
We enjoyed the nature and had a visit from some friendly sheep. Everyone had a great day.
The Magic Table
We are delighted to announce that we have just had a Magic Table installed, which is an interactive light projector, designed to support residents living with dementia by keeping them engaged through specialised games.
The light projections respond to hand and arm movement, allowing residents to stay stimulated and, most of all, have fun!
You can read more about it on this page.
