Activities at Rivermead Care Home

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Nicola Bedford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Nicola and I am the activity coordinator for Rivermead. I plan and deliver a range of interactive and stimulating activities throughout the week for all the residents.

We focus our planning through person centred care, meaning the activities we deliver are tailored to each of the residents individual choice and interests.

It’s a very rewarding job role to be in, seeing the residents enjoy their lives to the best of their abilities and enhancing their experiences, building and maintaining friendships and supporting their wellbeing.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Musical Moments

Rivermead has eagerly welcomed back musical moments as the residents always loved this engaging and interactive activity. Jodie, the organiser, was amazing and has a wonderful personality! She brings the energy as well as props and music to get everyone singing and joining in with the activity. Music and singing is one of the best activities here at Rivermead, the residents really engage when they hear familiar songs, and they already cannot wait until Jodie come back again.

Pony party

Rivermead was visited by a local organisations who deliver some wonderful pony experiences. As we celebrated some birthdays of residents who are from veterinary and animal backgrounds, it was fitting to have such an experience for them as they reminisced to their youth, shared amazing and beautiful stories and had a really good time feeding and grooming the pony.

Cornish Seal Sanctuary

A big thank you to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for the fantastic live virtual event today!

Residents across our services loved seeing the seals up close and learning about the incredible work the sanctuary does to protect them and other wildlife in Cornwall as well.

Everyone truly enjoyed the experience.

Summer Fair

This month we have hosted our wonderful summer fair, this year was bigger and better than ever! We had craft stalls arranged outside alongside refreshments of tea/coffee/juice and a yummy ice cream stand. We also had a stall of homemade cakes and other sweet treats inside our reception area alongside a fantastic tombola. The residents enjoyed the lovely weather we had as they sat outside with ice creams and sweet treats and we also had a designated area with some fun games for them to enjoy and so did our visitors!

Coffee Mornings

We host weekly community coffee mornings here at Rivermead. The residents really enjoy this social get together, we share stories of different past times, hobbies and interest as well as also putting on some light hearted quizzes and we’ve been learning lots of new interesting facts. This activity reduces social isolation as we bring people together and supports positive wellbeing.

Games Day

This month the residents have enjoyed taking part in some fun gentle physical exercises games. There was a competitive game of balloon tennis; orange verses green! The residents also had a go at our new ring toss and bean bag game. Theses gentle games are a really fun way to keep the body stimulated as well as the mind.
