Activities at Rivermead Care Home

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Nicola Bedford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Nicola and I am the activity coordinator for Rivermead. I plan and deliver a range of interactive and stimulating activities throughout the week for all the residents.

We focus our planning through person centred care, meaning the activities we deliver are tailored to each of the residents individual choice and interests.

It’s a very rewarding job role to be in, seeing the residents enjoy their lives to the best of their abilities and enhancing their experiences, building and maintaining friendships and supporting their wellbeing.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Rivermead Care Home

Harrogate Chocolate Factory

We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.

Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.

The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.

Beat the Clock

We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.

Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Easter Cake Champions!

Excitement is running high at Rivermead where the talented residents have been named the winners of the annual Barchester Easter Cake competition for the North East & Scotland Division.

Each year residents from Barchester’s care homes and hospitals up and down the country compete for the coveted Easter Cake of the Year title.  The competition is run by the central hospitality team and the bar is set very high. Many of Barchester’s residents are very skilled bakers and the Easter cake designs can be very elaborate.  Competition is fierce and only the very best recipes and designs will prevail.

Mother's Day

Rivermead celebrated Mother’s Day by doing something really fun and enjoyable. We did some flower bouquet arranging involving all our lovely ladies.

We set the tables out, had some snacks and a tipple of sherry and got to work on our lovely bouquets which turned out better than we could’ve imagine

It’s amazing that something so small can bring so many smiles and enjoyment to our residents faces especially on a day as important as Mother’s Day.

Place your bets!

This month we gathered the resident together in the lounge to enjoy watching the Cheltenham gold cup. We encouraged the residents to get cheering on the jockeys along with some drinks and nibbles whilst guessing who was going to come out on top! After the race, we also organised a horse quiz full of interesting facts. This was a lovely social stimulating activity where the residents can come together and have some fun!

London Ladies

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.

Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.

Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.
