Activities at Rivermead Care Home

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered programme of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love.

Nicola Bedford

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Nicola and I am the activity coordinator for Rivermead. I plan and deliver a range of interactive and stimulating activities throughout the week for all the residents.

We focus our planning through person centred care, meaning the activities we deliver are tailored to each of the residents individual choice and interests.

It’s a very rewarding job role to be in, seeing the residents enjoy their lives to the best of their abilities and enhancing their experiences, building and maintaining friendships and supporting their wellbeing.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Motorbike Event

This month we had an amazing motorbike event held at Rivermead for a resident’s birthday! The community have been so involved and really pushed this event to make it possible. Our resident Gary had an absolutely smashing time seeing some of his old biker friends again after so long and reminiscing on previous races. The biker did a huge drive past the home first, then stopped in for refreshments and to socialise afterwards. All of the residents got involved and really enjoyed this event. Our Sister home, Mallard Court, also joined us for the afternoon!

Horsing Around

Our residents have enjoyed being able to attend our wonderful manager, Sarah’s, riding lesson at Askham Bryan equine this month.

We watched Sarah lesson from inside the arena and what a fantastic job she did as we cheered her on and clapped! Then we had the privilege of being able to walk around the stables and see the rest of the horses they have!

Breezy Knees Gardens

Our residents enjoyed a lovely day trip out in the minibus to a beautiful garden called Breezy knees.

We spent time wandering around the amazing gardens, admiring the many flowers and picking our favourite ones. Then we stopped off at the café to have a delicious bite to eat of sandwiches and a much needed cup of tea/coffee.

Homes come together for 'Big Quiz'

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Cook Off 2024

Staff and residents are celebrating because their wonderful Managing Director, Fiona Fagan, from Barchester’s North East and Scotland Division, has stepped completely out of her comfort zone to compete in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Fiona went head-to-head with the Managing Directors from Barchester’s four other divisions and cooked up a storm to raise a phenomenal £24,595 for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation which helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life.  Each year the Foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
