Activities at Rothsay Grange Care Home
The activities coordinators at Rothsay Grange work 7 days a week to ensure there is a variety of planned group and one to one activities to suit all individual needs. The activities consist of weekly running activities such as chair zumba, Music therapy, an Arts club and many more. We also run a weekly minibus trip to local places of interest giving everyone a chance to have a trip out of the home.
Rothsay Grange also knows how to have a good old tea party alongside some fantastic entertainers and productions that visit the home on a regular basis. Irene and Aimee feel its very important to have the residents that live here to have a fun and fulfilled life and encourage them to attend as many activities as they wish.
Irene & Leah
Irene and Leah have been working together since 2019, and thoroughly enjoy planning and providing activities for our residents. They are a great team and always bring joy and fun to wherever they are in the home.
Leah has worked at Rothsay since she was 16, as an apprentice carer, and has worked her way into a position that she loves.
Irene has many years’ experience in working with vulnerable adults and children, and also started working here as a care assistant several years ago, before moving on to senior carer and then into the activities coordinator role.
Both love seeing the way that residents' lives are enriched with the activities they provide, and love interacting with all the residents in our care.

Life at Rothsay Grange Care Home
The Vyne
One sunny morning in August, we took 6 residents on a trip to The Vyne, a National Trust park in Basingstoke, where we discovered the formal gardens and woodlands that surrounded a Tudor palace. The Vyne has a rich and vibrant history which we all enjoyed learning about during our visit. We also had a lovely picnic in the sun before walking around more of the grounds, then finally stopped for afternoon tea in the restaurant on site. One resident commented: “What a lovely house; I wouldn’t want to be the cleaner.”
Macmillan Coffee Morning & Mad Hatter's Tea Party
Our celebration of Macmillan Coffee Morning was tied in with National Cupcake Week. The chefs at Rothsay Grange put on their aprons and dug out the mixing bowls to bake us a good mixture (no pun intended) of cupcakes. On the morning of Friday 23rd September, the sweet-toothed residents, relatives and staff enjoyed a treat of tea, coffee and cakes for the price of a small donation to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Come the afternoon, we all changed into our fancy dress outfits for our Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to help celebrate and raise money for the charity. The residents had already made their own hats and decorations prior to the event. We had the traditional jam tarts, an array of cupcakes and tea aplenty, with everyone having a good ol' sing-along. We had special visitors from Milford House come and join us for this event, which was a lovely treat for residents. Before the end of the party, we had some pet therapy with the General Manager's pet rabbit, Floppy, which brought a huge smile to everyone's face.
In total, we raised £70; thank you to all who supported us during this event.
Brave the Shave!!!
Rothsay Grange's Activities Co-Ordinator Irene Holmes braved the shave with an audience of residents, relatives and friends of the home on the 16th August. Irene decided to do this in memory of her parents who passed away after a long illness of cancer. Irene said that "we all had great support from the Macmillan team during and after their passing". The total raised so for for her Brave the Shave is £200.00, money is still coming in.
Irene would like to say a huge thank you to all that supported her in this charity event.
Sadie Belly Dancers Come to Rothsay Grange
Rothsay Grange welcomed the Sadie Belly Dancers once again. We had a dry afternoon, where we invited the residents to join us outside in the garden for some tea and entertainment from our guests. After the dancers had shown us how it was done, residents and staff had a chance to give it a go. Lots of fun was had by all and we look forward to welcoming Sadie back in the near future.
Rothsay Grange Summer Fete
The sun was good for us all at Rothsay Grange and made a spectacular appearance.
We had numerous local stool holders attend our event even the local Ice-cream man.
Residents, friends and family along with staff enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment by
The fantastic Gary Roman. Plenty of money was spent and fun was had by all……
So far we have raised a whopping £600.00 which will go towards our residents fund and Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.
