Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Virtual coffee experience

We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience.

We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.

To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.

Virtual cookery demonstration

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

Miniature adventure brings magic!

Scarborough Hall care home, in Scarborough, was full of animal mischief on Wednesday when a miniature horse named Taz came to visit the home. K L Pony Therapy sprinkled a little mini horse magic to our residents bringing happiness and joy.

Residents at Scarborough Hall were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friend coming to the home from the carpark.  Pony therapy is a very tactile, soothing and calming therapy, with known benefits for all kinds of medical conditions such as depression and dementia amongst others.

Burns celebrations at Scarborough Hall

Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough prepared a traditional Burns lunch to the tune of bagpipes and the fun continued into the afternoon.

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities learning the art of Scottish Country Dancing, the Ceilidh, Matthew Jones-Green Musical performance to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.

General Manager, Charlotte Nurse at Scarborough Hall, thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an afternoon steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of reading a selection of Burns’ poems/virtual tour of the Robbie Burns Museum and tour of Scotland.

Home embraces flower power

Residents at Scarborough Hall Care Home in Scarborough celebrated International Flower Day which took place on 19th January.

International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.

Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including a flower arranging competition, reminiscing about their gardens/flowers in the home’s garden and Exercises to flower related songs. Which everyone really enjoyed.  Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.

Merry Christmas

Everyone at Scarborough Hall would like to wish our residents, families and friends a very Merry Christmas.
