Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Residents from Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough were filled with joy during their visit to Stepney Hill Farm. Residents enjoyed having afternoon tea before the Lambing Experience, where they had the opportunity to bottle feed the lambs.  Charlotte Nurse General Manager of Scarborough Hall said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their day out at the Farm. Trips out in the homes mini bus are a regular event for the residents, and we always ask for ideas on where they would best like to go. The day was a lot of fun, residents were able to feed the baby lambs on the day which was quite therapeutic, and we had great weather for the outing.”

Residents at Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough were treated to a virtual trip to the races to celebrate Ladies Day at Aintree.  They had so much fun that they decided to do it all again for the Grand National the next day!

Staff at the care home pulled out all the stops to give the residents an afternoon to remember.  They rolled out the red carpet, chilled the pink fizz and served delicious canapes so that residents felt like royalty.  They ladies created hats to wear Ladies Day, all the residents picked a horse for the Grand National and the whole home joined in with the celebrations. 

Beth Newland, Activity Lead at Scarborough Hall, said: “Our residents are absolute stars so they deserve to treated as such.  We had such a fantastic time getting dressed up and watching all the races together on Ladies Day – it was such a brilliant day we decided to do it all again the next day too!”

Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough had disco fever today to commemorate the day that ABBA won the Eurovision in 1974.   ABBA is the most successful Eurovision Song Contest winner. The Swedish pop band won the contest in 1974 and has enjoyed phenomenal success ever since, despite officially splitting up in 1983.

General Manager, Charlotte Nurse, said: “Lots of our residents are big ABBA fans and love their music so we booked Devan Kellet who sings on the cruise ships who tailored an ABBA tribute themed musical afternoon for us to enjoy. We’ve had a fantastic day listening to all their hits. This Morning we had an ABBA themed exercise class using our Oomph Demand platform, it is amazing how many songs they recorded. We all surprised ourselves by how many we remembered!”

Barrie Mills, a resident said: “I loved ABBA growing up.  Listening to all their old hits has brought back so many memories.  We’ve all had a brilliant time reminiscing about our dance fever days!”

Our residents came together to enjoy an exciting virtual talk courtesy of the team at National Trust Talks Service.  The illustrated talk took us closer to one of Cliveden’s most famous families, the Astors. Our residents were able to discover what motivated William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest man, to purchase Cliveden in 1893 and how the estate became the centre of high society in the 1920 s and 30 s thanks to his son Waldorf and daughter in law Nancy Astor.

We had a lovely time joining Holly and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to the Collection, followed by a sensory exploratory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.   The Collection ranges from Old Master paintings to 18th century French furniture, arms and armour.  We all had a wonderful time and cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and paint some landscapes in the upcoming days.

Residents had a wonderful time celebrating St Patricks Day with a virtual performance via zoom by our favourite entertainer Matt who did a Irish themed show for us. We Had Green cupcakes with a choice of Guinness or Irish cream coffee.
