Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home

100th Birthday Celebrations

Celebrations have been in full swing at Scarborough Hall, as one of its residents reached her centenary in style. Kay was joined by staff and other residents, as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef, Iain Calope Crossland.

Kay is a true Scarborough girl, and although she loved to travel, Kay lived at Holbeck Hill at the time of the famous Landslide. Kay inherited the responsibility of running her father’s laundry business in her early life. Kay married later in life and, after having, no children of her own, took on caring for her husband’s three children. Kay loved to study art, history, and was a friend of Scarborough Art Gallery before coming to Scarborough Hall, where she is enjoying a new chapter of her life.

Forget Me Knot

Residents of Scarborough Hall recently enjoyed a return trip on the ‘Forget Me Knot’ train from Whitby to Middlesborough. The 26-mile journey took in the rolling countryside to the delight of everyone as they reminscenced about trips they went on when they were younger and the holidays they had enjoyed.

During the journey, residents were able to enjoy hand massages from Cassie at Temple Spa, live entertainment, which had everyone singing along too and interviews conducted by Songs of Praise.

It was lots of fun for everyone!

Flippin' Fun Pancake Day

The staff and residents at Scarborough Hall have been flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race.

Scarborough Hall has marked this year’s Pancake Day with Pancake themed arts and crafts projects, an in home pancake flipping competition, the Yorkshire Coast Radio Annual Pancake Race in fancy dress which activities team member, Jess Larkin and care assistant, Dawn Humphrey took part in, and of course, lots of pancakes for tea!

Chinese New Year

Residents of Scarborough Hall Care Home have been busy preparing the home for the Chinese New Year. Residents took part in crafts leading up to the event including homemade Chinese lanterns and a paper mache dragon which had featured in different locations around the home.

On the day of Chinese New Year the residents joined together and enjoyed a new musical act on offer at the home and all had a wonderful time singing along to songs played on the ukulele by the very talented Tanya.

Pat's Exercise Club

At Scarborough Hall we are lucky enough to have a resident whose profession was fit instructor. During our residents' meetings we found out that Pat would be interested in leading a small group of residents to do a gentle exercise class comprised of controlled movements and stretches to an appropriate music.

Pat and activities member, Jess, had a 1-2-1 session together and came up with playlist and simple plan to use in their sessions. Encouraged and supported by the activities team, Pat now leads a successful session each week and has a few residents who attend and look forward to the meet up.

Each session includes a warm up, a mixture of sing-a-long songs and a number of songs from the playlist with appropriate movements and stretches led by Pat, then we offer the other residents the chance to lead a movement themselves and open the song choice up to the group so they get a chance to hear their favourite songs, we then conclude with a hot beverage and a chat before lunch.
