Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Snap happy as we celebrate World Photography Day
To celebrate World Photography Day, we were delighted to hear from Professional Photographer, Damian Bailey who spent some time guiding us through different photography tips and techniques.
We all had a wonderful afternoon and are excited to be taking part in the #BaileyBarchester competition where we look forward to putting all the tips and ideas learnt during the talk into practice.
Thank you, Damian Bailey Photography.
Home donate to local charity
Residents, loved ones, friends and staff members at Scarborough Hall have been helping out the local children who would normally receive free school meals by donating packed lunch items to the Rainbow Centre following their appeal on Facebook.
The Rainbow Centre was established in 1997 to offer practical support to vulnerable people in the local community. This support can provide assistance such as an emergency food parcel, a hot meal in our community cafe, access to shower and laundry facilities, clean clothing, bedding and other household essentials
Charlotte Nurse, General Manager at Scarborough Hall Care home, said: “Staff, residents and friends of the home all donated very generously to the Rainbow centre and it really is heart-warming to see how much people care about helping others who are less fortunate. Thanks to everyone who contributed. It will all be distributed to where it is needed most within our community."
The power of dance
We celebrated International Youth Day virtually with English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange.
We had the opportunity to watch A Comedy in Long-shot, participate in a chair-based creative dance workshop and observe an open rehearsal where Richard and the young dancers created a performance inspired by our childhood memories.
It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.
Night fever with V&A Dundee curator
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Scarborough Hall were treated to a talk about nightclub culture by V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard. The presentation forms part of a series of six talks and virtual tours that V&A Dundee is hosting for Barchester Healthcare’s care homes and private hospitals across the UK.
V&A Dundee is Scotland’s design museum, it showcases Scotland’s outstanding design achievements and features world-class exhibitions alongside the permanent Scottish Design Galleries, and a changing programme of commissions, events and activities.
Kirsty’s talk looked at the history and design of night clubs, and examined club culture from the 1960s to the present day. She explored their evolution and development around the world, from Italy to America, and closer to home, looking at their importance as cultural venues and designed spaces.
Virtual event with V&A Dundee
We enjoyed a wonderful virtual introduction to the world of robots with V&A Dundee Curator, Kirsty Hassard.
Kirsty talked us through the history of robots and their early beginnings, the presentation traced the fascination of all things wired and wonderful and considered what the future might hold for our relationship with a multitude of mechanical machines.
It was absolutely thrilling to learn what robots can do now and what they might be able to do in the future.
Blenheim Palace virtual talk
We had a lovely time exploring the amazing gardens of Blenheim Palace through a virtual talk, hosted by the Historian - Antonia Keaney.
We enjoyed a virtual look at how the gardens at Blenheim have developed over the past 300 years - from the formality of Henry Wise through to the ‘natural’ landscape created by Capability Brown and beyond.
Everyone was very impressed by the many jewels hidden within the 150 acres of beautiful gardens.
