Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Mini bus trips return!

These ladies fancied a “spin out” so that’s exactly what they got.  They had a lovely drive along the famous Scarborough seafront, they parked up and watched the waves.

Betty said “what amazing feeling it was to be able to go out again, when I saw the sea I shed a few tears, it was like the awful times are coming to an end and we can enjoy our lives again”.

Patsy said “it was nice just to get out and see the world again, I looked over at Betty seen she had tears so that set me off they were tears of joy and happiness.

Residents celebrate return of entertainers

There were smiles all round at Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough as live entertainers were allowed to perform in the garden once again.  George England performed classic hits including ‘Living Doll, Twist and Shout, rock around the clock and Is this the way to Amarillo’ for staff and residents who really enjoyed the show.

Just like the rest of the country, Government guidelines for care homes are starting to relax and performers can now entertain residents again safely in outdoor spaces.

Charlotte Nurse, General Manager at Scarborough Hall commented: “It is great to be able to open up our gardens again and have some live entertainment for our residents.  We have really missed being able to welcome performers into our home during lockdown, although we’ve had lots of virtual concerts, quizzes and talks.  It’s lovely to be able to host events in the garden again now that lockdown is easing and the weather is getting warmer.”

Mental Health Awareness Week

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.

National Vegetarian Week

To celebrate National Vegetarian Week, staff and residents at Barchester’s Scarborough Hall were treated to an interactive virtual cookery demo courtesy of chef, Alex Connell, from Vegetarian for Life.

Chef Alex whipped up some tasty, healthy vegetarian snacks in a live, interactive cookery demo.  Much to residents’ delight, Scarborough Hall head chef had prepared the same recipes so that residents could try all the dishes. Residents sampled delicious, light and summery veggie dishes including Borlotti bean and dill pate, Greek fritters with Tzatziki and Coronation 'chicken' pastries. All finished off with a sweet and simple but totally yummy banana bread.
