Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Wildflower creation
Residents enjoyed a creative arts and crafts session as they began work on our contribution to the Community Wildflower Display at the Old Parcels Office. Using paint-dabbing techniques, they created colourful flowers, each adding their own unique touch to the project.
The session was filled with creativity, conversation, and fun, giving residents the opportunity to express themselves while contributing to a wonderful community display. We are looking forward to seeing the finished exhibition when it opens in July.

Time in the garden
At Scarborough Hall, we love spending time in the garden, and we are making the most of the beautiful sunshine while it’s here! The warm weather has been perfect for getting outside, enjoying ball games, and sharing ice cream together in the fresh air.
There have been lots of smiles and laughter as everyone enjoys the sunny days safely with sun cream and hats. Days like these are all about having fun, relaxing in the garden, and making lovely memories together.

Residents embrace flower power
Residents celebrated Chelsea Flower Show which took place from 19 to 23 May 2026 - as well as watching the show on TV, they also held their own competition for green-fingered residents.
Created and run by the Royal Horticultural Society, Chelsea Flower Show is the world’s greatest flower show with stunning garden designs and gorgeous floral displays.
Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the week including flower arranging, reminiscing about their gardens/flowers in the home’s garden, Planting Strawberry plants and a visit to Sewerby halls gardens which everyone really enjoyed. Their collective knowledge about flowers and shrubs gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.

Annual Easter egg hunt
We were delighted to host our annual Easter Egg Hunt for local children, and what a wonderful day it was. The children had an amazing time chatting with residents, holding chicks, and enjoying a variety of games. It was a truly special intergenerational activity, bringing smiles to everyone involved.
This much-loved event continues to be a highlight of the year for all.
Birds of Prey for World Wildlife Day
To celebrate World Wildlife Day, residents requested that we invite Trev from Animal House Birds of Prey back to the home to give an informative talk on wildlife conservation.
We also got the opportunity to meet a selection of beautiful birds. This event was especially meaningful to resident Ellen, whose wish it was to stroke an owl.

World Ocean Day
We celebrated World Ocean Day with a visit to the Sea Life Centre and had an amazing time learning about the penguins and discovering all the other fascinating sea creatures.
We enjoyed seeing a variety of marine animals and learning about the importance of protecting our oceans.

Cheese and wine party
In May, residents from all three floors came together to enjoy a lovely cheese and wine party, filled with smiles, laughter, and wonderful conversation. The afternoon gave everyone a chance to relax, socialise, and spend quality time together in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
These special gatherings help build friendships across the home, bringing residents closer together and creating a strong sense of community. Doreen especially enjoyed the occasion and said, “It’s lovely, but keep the wine. Could I just have a sherry instead, if you don’t mind.

Van Gogh's birthday
We decided to create a special piece of art for Vincent van Gogh’s birthday on 30th March. We didn’t anticipate how long it would take, but after three weeks of hard work in our craft clubs, it’s finally complete!
Van Gogh’s artwork is famous all over the world. After exploring some of his pieces, we chose to recreate The Starry Night. You can now see our artwork on display in reception. We’re very proud of it!
Mother’s Day
For Mother’s Day, residents enjoyed being spoilt all day long, beginning with some beautiful flower arranging in the morning, a relaxing salon spa pamper in the afternoon, followed by prosecco and strawberries all round.
To determine how the residents wanted to spend their Mother's Day, the activity team hosted a residents meeting in February and collated everyone’s ideas into the perfect relaxing day.

Bob Marley's birthday
Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough was transformed into a little corner of the Caribbean to celebrate what would have been Bob Marley’s 81st birthday on 6th February. Throughout the week, we had numerous craft clubs to create these beautiful carnival-themed headpieces (modelled by Stephen).
We wore these for our carnival-inspired exercise club, then we listened to Bob Marley and enjoyed some amazing cake.

Fish and chip day
To celebrate National Fish and Chip Day, residents at Scarborough Hall enjoyed a traditional fish and chip takeaway, bringing back fond memories of years gone by. To make the occasion even more authentic, meals were served on paper, just as many residents remembered from their younger days. Everyone enjoyed coming together to share a delicious meal, accompanied by plenty of conversation, laughter, and reminiscing about favourite fish and chip experiences.
Residents enthusiastically debated whether it should be called a bap, a roll, or a butty, while also discussing their preferred accompaniments, from salt and vinegar to ketchup, tartare sauce, curry sauce, and gravy. One thing everyone agreed on was their love of mushy peas. Resident Joan commented, “That was absolutely lovely eating fish and chips the old-fashioned way.” It was a wonderful celebration filled with great food, cherished memories, and enjoyable company, leaving everyone with smiles on their faces.

Whisky Tasting Event
In May, residents enjoyed a wonderful whisky-themed experience in the Bronte Suite lounge, where they watched a live whisky tasting and learning event together. Everyone discovered the fascinating history of whisky and learned about the traditional making process while enjoying delicious shortbread, adding to the authentic feel of the afternoon.
After the live event, part of the home was transformed into a cosy pop-up pub whisky experience, creating a warm and social atmosphere for residents to continue the fun together. It was lovely to see so many smiles, conversations, and shared memories, with the experience encouraging social connection, sensory stimulation, and meaningful engagement.

A trip to the garden centre
It was a truly lovely day out at the coffee shop in Irton Garden Centre. Maureen and Barbara were gently pushed around the garden centre, enjoying a relaxed stroll as they took in the beautiful plants and displays.
Afterwards, they settled down for a cosy coffee together, chatting and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere. It was a much-loved outing for them both, filled with warmth and simple pleasures.
Dog Photography Competition
Team members and residents' family members enjoyed entering the dog photography competition held at Scarborough Hall in recognition of Crufts.
Everyone was invited to send their entries via email or our Facebook page. When all the entries were in, the residents then had a fabulous time looking through all the photos and selecting their winner. There was a unanimous decision and little Lola was the clear winner. Lola received a bespoke hamper with her favourite treats.
Chinese New Year
A Chinese New Year themed dining experience was enjoyed by all. Residents had an amazing time listening to traditional Chinese music while enjoying an authentic Chinese meal prepared by Chef Iain.
They also took part in reading fortune cookies and learning interesting facts about Chinese New Year, making the celebration both fun and educational for everyone involved.
