Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Scarborough Hall Care Home
Wishing Tree Initiative – A Trip Down Memory Lane
Since beginning her life at Scarborough Hall resident Ann has always been fond of recounting tales from the time she ran her much beloved boarding house in Scarborough on Ashville Avenue, she would reminisce with residents, team members and visitors about how wonderful it was being able to bring up her two young sons and make a living for the family at the same time. Ann knew she wanted to be at home for the children so it only seemed natural to extend her home making abilities to holiday guests who chose to frequent our seaside town.
Ann has always been super proud of her ‘bottom ender’ heritage and is able to remember a lot of Scarborough’s history and past times. When the activity team met with Ann’s sons and had a brainstorm for her perfect wish, all were in agreement along with Ann that the most meaningful thing for her would be to have a seaside tourist day with the activity team and family.
We started off the day by journeying to Scarborough’s North side in our minibus where Ann got the chance for a photo opportunity with her son’s outside her old boarding house, they then took a relaxing stroll around old town where Ann grew up followed by an ice cream at the traditional Harbour Bar!
Community Sunflower Growing Competition
The activity team and residents at Scarborough Hall care home are excited to be hosting our annual community sunflower growing competition. We have invited our community contacts, residents, friends and family members to take part as an extension of our bi-weekly gardening club. The best sunflower will be judged by residents and there will be a prize for the winner.
Many of the residents remember this favourite past time from when they were children and have expressed a keen interest in keeping the tradition alive for our younger generation. This is one of the areas we are passionate about here at Scarborough Hall, we love empowering the youth in our community by passing on valued knowledge from much simpler times, all whilst attempting to break the societal stigma surrounding life in a care home, we do this through our intergenerational work with our links in our local community.
Come sing!
Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy.
Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles.
Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
Easter celebrations
Residents and local community hosted their annual Easter egg hunt in style. Residents and local community at Scarborough Hall enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, we had Rachel from Ryedale Animal bring her Lambs for us to bottle feed in the lounge, and then we hosted our annual Easter egg hunt in the garden. While Becky and Rachel took the lambs around the rest of the home so everyone could enjoy them.
General Manager, Charlotte Nurse said: “As always, we’ve all been looking forward to Easter. It’s such a lovely time of year – the resident’s love the children and animals visiting us here. It’s really been an eggs-cellent few days!”
Inside the Factory
We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.
Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.
The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.
Beat the Clock
We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.
Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.
Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
