Activities at Shelburne Lodge Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Shelburne Lodge Care Home
Birds of Prey
We were thrilled to welcome Falconry UK to Shelburne Lodge to celebrate our Open Day. Not only did they provide the opportunity for residents so see some wonderful birds, they also gave a very informative presentation on the their environment, habitat, adaptation and evolution. They provided plenty of opportunities for the residents to see the birds up close and to hold them.
A range of different birds were brought in and residents had a wonderful day; it will definitely be remembered for a very long time!
Medical Detection Dog Visit
We were thrilled to welcome the medical detection team to Shelburne Lodge recently with their very well behaved dog, Elsa! The residents enjoyed a very informative presentation, providing lots of information about how the trained dogs are able to detect serious, life-threatening illnesses. As a charity, they rely solely upon the public’s generosity and good will. We hope to assist with their fundraising with future events at the home.
Employee of the Month - March
A huge congratulations to Stefan-Marian Cojocaru for being voted as March's Employee of the Month. Not only does Stefan offer an excellent service as a Carer, he is also able to cover Chef duties in the kitchen, providing nutritious and balanced meals for residents. Well done, Stefan!
Wild Science Pet Therapy
Wild Science was back by popular demand, and arrived with plenty of new ‘friends’ for residents to meet and cuddle. The interaction between residents and animals was wonderful to see and we learnt lots of interesting facts. Rex the snake turned out to be very popular!
Chinese New Year Celebrations
Life has been busy at Shelburne Lodge as we made preparations to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Residents created Chinese lanterns and painted zodiac signs that relate to their birth year. It’s amazing how many people are celebrating being born in the year of the dog! Residents had fun using chopsticks, sampling Chinese tea and watching a traditional Chinese lion dance. The fortune cookies were popular too!
Champagne Afternoon Cream Tea
We held a Champagne Afternoon Cream Tea on Friday 6th October to celebrate Barchester’s 25th Anniversary. All residents and families were in good spirits and we also had visitors from a neighbouring elderly community who came along to enjoy the celebrations. Champagne Enterprise provided the entertainment. Residents were also entertained by staff and family members dancing and singing along and having fun. It was a great afternoon with lots of laughter and a delicious chocolate fountain to go with the cream teas and champagne.
