Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Stacey Davies
I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Life at Southerndown Care Home
Pedalling to Oxford Beaumont
Monday 29th, the start of a new week and our wonderful residents across all communities enjoyed a group pedal session on the foot cycles, achieving another 5 miles on our virtual route to Oxford Beaumont Community Care Barchester Healthcare for the 2nd of sister home pit stops.
It's non stop pedaling at Southerndown, we will get to Oxford Beaumont by 1st April 2021 - Thursday afternoon with foot power and plenty of smiles 7.5 miles today! Well done everyone... let's keep it going for @BeFreeYC. To join us at the Alice in Wonderland - Mad Hatters Tea Party please email Southerndown.activities@barchester.com to receive your zoom link.
Reflecting on Mary Quant
On 23 March our residents had the opportunity to take a journey back to the swinging sixties and the height of liberated fashion with the first major exhibition in 50 years of the seminal British designer’s work. The talk explored how her unique style developed from humble beginnings and went on to change the face of fashion forever. #SewQuant
Quant captured the spirit of the swinging sixties and pioneered a business model that reshaped the industry, making designer fashion far more accessible for women and men. Many of our lady residents remembered buying and wearing their first miniskirts with pride!
Several gentlemen residents decided to pedal through the show to keep our sponsored milometer going as the ladies sat back reminiscing on the various fashions they wore through the decades.
Virtual Cycle Team Arrive and Party at Chacombe Park
Southerndown celebrated today the virtual arrival at Chacombe Park in Hawaiian style! Residents and staff enjoyed some delicious smoothies prepared by our chef and some much needed yummy cakes kindly gifted to us from Coop Chipping Norton - thank you so much! 100 miles go!
Red Nose Day - Celebrating & Cycling
We would like to thank everybody for all the kind donations we've already received, we are so grateful for your support. Today is about raising money for many charities through Comic Relief, and our staff were happy to buy and wear their 'red noses' with pride as they continued to pedal another 5 miles for Be Free Young Carers... 103 miles to go! https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/Barchester
Cycle Challenge Day 3
We even got the chef involved and our wonderful care team helped add to the 16.3 miles we're down today. Please give if you can to support our amazing cause, every penny counts and it all goes to Be Free Young Carers Thank you for your continued support! https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/Barchester
St Patrick's Day - Keep on Cycling
The Southerndown Cyclethon miles are growing, with a little luck of the Irish our residents continue to pedal their way to Chacombe Park Care Home
Today 17th March we arrived at The Rollright Stones, which is an ancient site located on the Oxfordshire & Warwickshire border. The complex consists of three main elements, The Kings Men stone circle, the King Stone, and the Whispering Knights.
As our residents and staff (Deputy Manager Clem, and Stacey from activities) pushed the pedals, they learnt all about this wonderful local attraction. All agreeding; its a place they can't wait to visit in-person one day soon!
The residents finished the day with a choice of traditional Irish tipple; Guinness, Irish Coffees or Bailys which they definitely deserved. To find out more about our chellenge, please visit https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/Barchester
