Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Stacey Davies
I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Life at Southerndown Care Home
Playing 'a round' with Philip
Today we had a very special morning, resident Philip missed greatly playing golf regularly. A local golf player Scott, kindly donated some of his clubs and balls so Philip could once again play.
His face was priceless and Philip loved teaching the other residents and staff. We can't wait until the weather improves and Philip can get outside and really test his swing across our grounds!
Visiting Outdoor Display
Romeo is still braving the elements to woe Juliet, and our residents are doing the same on their daily walk. Visiting our outdoor display and taking time to read all the messages of LOVE from the local community.
The residents and staff at Southerndown wish you all a wonderful, romantic Valentines weekend.
Chinese New Year
To celebrate Chinese New Year, many of our residents made some Chinese lanterns to decorate the dining tables im preparation for chef's special Chinese New Year menu.
They really loved the bright colours and learning about the Year of the Ox.
Reminiscence Session
Taking a trip down memory lane with our residents is always a joy. These reminiscence sessions are as beneficial to our young activities team as they are to our residents.
Floral Spring-Summer Wreaths
Over the weekend our wonderful Memory Lane lady residents decided to hand-craft some lovely 'Spring-summer wreaths' to decorate and brighten the walls.
We think they're as good as a florist would make, well done ladies. Everyone agreed the 'rose' flower to be their favourite.
From Chipping Norton to South Africa
Today at Southerndown we had the pleasure of reconnecting Ken with his brother in South Africa over zoom. They haven’t seen each other for almost 20 years!
Our General Manager Ela made it her mission to make it happen and today, with the families help, Ken finally spoke to his brother ‘face-to-face’ through the power of Wi-Fi.
It was such a privilege to be able to help join the siblings together albeit virtually. During these difficult times Ken, his brother and other members of the family will now be able to catch up whenever and wherever they are in the world; lockdown really doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected.
