Activities at Southerndown Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Activities Co-ordinator

I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Love is…Romeo & Juliet

Following on from the success of our life-size nativity display the residents and staff at Southerndown decided to get all romantic in the run up to Valentines 2021.

Visible from the Worcester Road as you walk or drive by ‘Romeo & Juliet’ are on display, surrounded by flower garlands and messages of ‘love and hope’ created by local primary school students.

Our display is a reflection of the love. Due to the current restrictions our residents are missing the regular hugs and kisses they would usually receive. This display was designed by them to send a message that love is everlasting.

We really hope you enjoy it and welcome more messages of love for our residents to read, we will place all on the display with Romeo & Juliet to share the love with passers-by.

E. Southerndown.Activities@barchester.com post, or deliver to our reception. Southerndown care home really believes... you’re never too old to fall in love!

Flower Arranging

Our residents have been busy today creating beautiful floral arrangements for display around the home. They used their favourite colours; cornflower blue and yellow to brighten our dining tables and lounges. It really does feel like spring is on its way.

National Feed the Birds Day

Oh how we enjoyed 'National Feed the Birds day' (03/02/21) at Southerndown.

Our residents spent time in the fresh air, taking a stroll around the gardens and filling the feeders to encourage more of our feathered friends to visit.

Celebrating Cumulative 40 Years Service

Ela Solomon, General Manager of Southerndown care home had the pleasure of presenting two prestigious Long Service Awards today; 10 and 30 years’ respectively, in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for a cumulative 40 years!

The individual members of staff were; Letty Marton, Head of Unit (10 years) and Eva Ions, Home Administrator (30 years), both ladies are a credit to the Barchester family, always smiling and have, over the years, ensured our residents and their relatives’ needs are met to the highest of standards.

“We’re delighted to be celebrating these loyal service achievements with each member of staff. The Long Service Awards are a way for us to show our appreciation for their invaluable contribution to the home and colleagues. I speak for all of us here at Southerndown when I say we hope they enjoy their gifts, and we’re looking forward to many more years of working with them both.”

Romanian Sweet Treats

Big thank you to carer 'Andrei' who decided to treat our residents to some home-made authentic Romanian pancakes. Smothered in chocolate sauce and topped with freshly sliced banana; they were simply delicious. We really looking forward to Shrove Tuesday on 16th February now!

St Mary's Hearts of Hope

The residents and staff at Southerndown wish to send a BIG THANK YOU to St Mary's Primary School, Chipping Norton for donating a selection of hand-crafted hearts created by the students; each with personalised messages.

They’ll be placed on display within our Romeo & Juliet scene for Valentine’s Day - We know our residents and all visitors will absolutely love reading them.
