Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Stacey Davies
I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Life at Southerndown Care Home
World Religion Day
Sunday 17th January is 'World Religion Day' This morning we have been discussing and finding out about different religions, all extremely interesting. We made a display board and used the iPads to find out key pieces about the various religions. Our residents love a little spiritual learning at Southerndown.
Aromatherapy and Pampering
After hand massage and manicures, we took timeout to enjoy an afternoon in our sensory room, with relaxing aromatherapy using lavender. It's such a fantastic space, our residents and staff agree, we're very lucky to have this special room to unwind on a chilly January afternoon.
Bread Making
Here at Southerndown we love the smell of freshly baked bread and we love eating it even more! One our our residents; Cyril offered to help with the bread maker this morning. We decided on a good old fashioned pain white bloomer, just look at the results. We all agreed it was blooming lovely especially with our soup at lunch time.
Potato Printing Artworks
In line with ‘veganuary’ all things vegetable have inspired our residents. Today’s arts & crafts session was full of potatoes! Even our lovely General Manager Ela got involved, and carer John couldn’t resist a little nostalgic potato printing. We think the end result is amazing, good enough for framing.
Helping Hands
One of our wonderful lady residents just loves helping out our housekeeping team. In gratitude for all her efforts, Victoria from the activities team gave her a mini makeover. Who doesn't love being pampered?
Friendly Goats
Now those naughty goats get just about everywhere! Trying to eat our resident’s flowers through the window [nice try] and saying hello to a visiting ambulance driver... they really are a friendly bunch!
