Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Stacey Davies
I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Life at Southerndown Care Home
The Chippy Swifts
Southerndown is a proud sponsor of the under 12's football team, Chippy Swifts, which has enabled them to buy their new training jackets.
The team visited us at Southerndown before a recent match and we were all excited to get a first look at their new kit.
We can’t wait until the weather gets warmer so we can go and watch them play at their home ground.
A Double Celebration
Southerndown had a double celebration recently, when we celebrated Barchester's 25th anniversary and unveiled the look of our new 'wow factor' home, both of which were a hit with residents, loved ones and visitors alike.
What an amazing way to spend the day – plenty of fantastic food, so many friends and family members among us and entertainment from fan favourite, Tristan.
Pumpkin Carving
Southerndown created spook-tacular pumpkins for Halloween. Every one really enjoyed the carving and we were really pleased with how they turned out.
Oxford Bus Museum
Southerndown had a wonderful day trip to Oxford Bus Museum.
Residents really enjoyed having a look at some of the buses and how much they have changed in the past 100 years.
We are now 10-60-06 accredited!
Southerndown would like to say a massive congratulations to our Memory Lane staff for receiving their 10-60-06 accreditation.
General Manager, Mandy Vettraino, said, “we are delighted to have achieved the 10-60-06 dementia care accreditation. The changes we have made to our Memory Lane community and the services we provide make a big difference to people’s lives and well-being and I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff that have made this possible.”
Care Home Open Day
Residents, loved ones and friends all enjoyed homemade cakes, a tombola stall and our knitted craft stalls for a lovely day of fun in the sun. We were joined by our local church; what a perfect way to spend the day.
