Activities at Southerndown Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Stacey Davies
I have worked at Southerndown since 2013. I enjoy providing various activities for our residents with the team, such as gardening groups, trips out in the mini bus around the Cotswolds, quiz days and entertainment performances. Amongst the many things we enjoy doing, part of my role within the home is to ensure all residents are provided the purpose in life to fulfil day to day stimulation, whether that be together, or creating individual activity to those that prefer.

Life at Southerndown Care Home
Carers Week Celebrations
Staff and residents recently celebrated their fantastic care team for all of their hard work, compassion and dedication to residents in their care.
Nutrition & Hydration Week
Southerndown took part in Nutrition & Hydration Week recently. We have been very busy making and taste testing our very own fruit animal creations. Some of our creations include a melon shark, apple turtles and a grape and pear peacock.
National Real Bread Week
Everyone at Southerndown has enjoyed taking part in National Real Bread week. Residents and staff alike have all been showing off their fantastic baking skills. We made and taste-tested many different types of bread, including soda bread, gingerbread, multigrain, cheese and sun-dried tomatoes, poppy seed, and bay leaf garlic and herbs, to list but a few.
Snow Much Fun
Residents and staff alike had such an amazing time in the snow; they decided to make the most of it and build their very own snowman.
We all had such good fun spending so much time in the snow. When our snowman was complete, we warmed up with hot chocolate topped with cream and marshmallows.
What a wonderful way to spend a cold winter day!
Christmas Tree Festival
We have entered a tree into Chipping Norton’s Christmas Tree Festival; residents here at Southerndown have named the tree 'Golden Oldies’. We have spent the last week hand making all of the decorations out of pasta shells, leaves and cones, spraying them gold and glittering them up. We have made gold stars to hang on the tree, and have wrote our fondest memories of Christmas on the stars. We took a group of residents to a methodist church to decorate the tree – and it looks amazing!
The Chippy Swifts
Southerndown is a proud sponsor of the under 12's football team, Chippy Swifts, which has enabled them to buy their new training jackets.
The team visited us at Southerndown before a recent match and we were all excited to get a first look at their new kit.
We can’t wait until the weather gets warmer so we can go and watch them play at their home ground.
