Activities at Spen Court Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Blackburn

Head of Activities

My name is Angela and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Spen Court. I get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness.

We feel it is important to build community connections and maintain our resident’s social interaction outside the care home.

We ensure we deliver a person-centered program of events and activities and build strong relationships with our residents, their families and friends.

Picture News

We have been receiving a weekly newsletter from Picture News. This contains print outs and reminiscence pages. The residents have been loving it as we have made it into a weekly activity.

Jigsaw Corner

Trevor, a resident at Spen Court loves nothing more than keeping himself busy all day long. He is always checking out the radiators to make sure the home has no leaks, he likes measuring doors and ensuring everything is to standard.

The homes activities coordinator, Angela invited Trevor to join in the jigsaw corner,  who promptly got straight to work. This activity is great for hand - eye coordination and also stimulates the mind. Trevor smiled throughout the activity and was triumphant upon completion, as you can see from his finished puzzle!

Keeping in touch

Keeping in touch with loved ones is important for our residents, whether it is visits in our designated visitor suite or via technology, nothing beats the traditional method – telephone!  Terry was delighted to catch up with his wife whilst enjoying a cup of tea and a chocolate snack.

Home receive personalised gift

Spen Court have received a personalised and hand-painted milk churn to display in the homes garden in memory of previous residents. It was gifted to the home by Paul, son of a former resident.

Resident, Leonard is a keen gardener and can often be seen pottering in the homes garden was invited to place the churn but chose to remain indoors and have a photograph. Leonard owned an allotment and grew his own vegetables for the family to cook and often share us tips!

National Polar Bear Day

On the 27th Feb, residents and staff at Spen Court joined forces to create a polar bear display in recognition of the work being done to keep the population of bears going.  During the session, residents discussed the various types of bears, their habitats and favourite teddy bears when they were younger.  It was a wonderful interactive session.

Love is in the air

Love is in the air for residents at Spen Court who have been busy making cards for their loved ones and adding love notes to the board for all to see.

Messages have shared the love of chocolate, loved ones, favourite pets and looking for the sun!  Love comes in many forms and Resident, says “You are a great bunch, and I’m happy here”.  Happy Valentines!
