Activities at Springvale Court Care Home

Today we celebrated international women’s day. We had some discussions about our female role models and how they had impacted our life.

Our residents told us all about their role model aswell as why they are so important in their life. This was really nice to just sit and listen to each residents own reasons for choosing the person they had.

This was such a heart warming activity with the residents and the smiles on their faces really show how talking about their female role model made them feel.

This afternoon we had a change of plan, instead of bingo we blew up a balloon and began to pass it to eachother. This then lead to introducing the tennis racket to gently pass the balloon to each other.

As you can see the residents were smiling, laughing and having fun whilst doing this activity. Even better we were exercising whilst doing this. Exercise promotes a positive wellbeing which in turn makes our residents happy.

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Across our services, our residents had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

So far today we have had a pancake themed quiz, a nice discussion about our pancake preferences and our own pancake flipping challenge.

This morning’s quiz told us that the highest pancake toss was 329cm in the air. Well, our lovely residents wanted to beat that so we got our pancakes and pans at the ready and had a few practice attempts. It’s safe to say we didn't beat the record for highest flip but everyone gave it their best go.

We all had a laugh about the fact Taylor had made a pretend pancake to use instead of a real one, but it did the job. We also had a resident who made some funny remarks such as "That was flipping marvellous" or "Its flipping fantastic", which has everyone in stitches.

This morning we had a stroll up the road and ended up with the donkeys.

We are so lucky to be so close to so many lovely places to walk and see. We talked about the clouds in the sky and how it truly felt like a winters morning.

Our resident thoroughly enjoyed this and really appreciated the time outside... even if we were frozen by the time we got home.
