Activities at Springvale Court Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jess Swinburne

Activities Coordinator

Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.

I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Life at Springvale Court Care Home

Preparing to be Pirates

Preparing to be Pirates

Talk like a pirate activities are in full swing at Springvale as residents joined together for a creative craft session at the home to prepare for their forthcoming event. The craft session was run by Gosia, activities coordinator, who brought in supplies and lots of fantastic ideas to the home to make an the bunting and decorations.

Residents worked together as a team to paint, cut, and hang and added their own creative touches. The home will be welcoming guests at their forthcoming ‘Talk like a pirate day’ – Residents said “This was such a lovely way to spend the morning.”

Guide Dogs Society

Guide Dogs Society

Springvale Court recently welcomed Wendy, a volunteer with the Guide Dogs Society and a special guest, her adorable dog Upton to the home. Wendy and Upton joined residents and hosted a talk about the charity, its services, and introduced Upton to the residents. Upton spent time meeting all residents.

Pet therapy can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also increase self-esteem and improve social skills, so everyone was absolutely delighted to have them along.

Judith, the General Manager of the home said: “We love to fundraise different charitable causes throughout the year that have been selected by our residents, staff and friends of the home. We managed to raise around £30.00 for the Guide Dogs Society this time and we are very proud of this achievement”.

100th Birthday Celebration

100th Birthday Celebration

Celebrations have been in full swing at Springvale Court, as one of its residents reached her centenary in style. Jean was joined by staff, friends and other residents, as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef Brenda Earls.

Intergenerational Arts & Crafts

Springvale Court recently hosted an intergenerational arts and crafts session for residents and children from the local primary school. The event welcomed the group of 5 pupils and their teacher to enjoy a crafty, spring-themed morning with residents at the home. We all had a fantastic time getting creative with potato stamps, paper flowers and paints.

,

Circle Dancing

At Springvale Court, we try out different ways of keeping residents active and happy. We invited a talented and experienced dance instructor to deliver a circle dance session to residents. We learnt short choreographies to popular Latin, Motown and rock ‘n’ roll music. Janette received a lovely feedback from the residents, and we will welcome her back again in the future.

,

Animation Station

Residents had a go at making they own animation using clay and iPad technology. We worked in teams of two creating our own characters and storylines. We worked together with Art Diamonds artists, and, as usual, the event turned out to be a fantastic creative workshop.
