Activities at Springvale Court Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Jess Swinburne
Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.
I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Springvale Court Care Home
Sing-a-long for John
Springvale Court residents enjoyed a live performance from Sing-a-long John this Valentine’s Day. John brings a spinning wheel with many different genres of music, our residents take it in turns to spin the wheel and then choose a song. Joyce got up and had a boogie to the music while everyone clapped and sang along. We had songs by Doris Day and Elvis Presley chosen by Cathy and Harry. Hazel our new resident said she hadn’t enjoyed herself as much in such a long time, it was so lovely to spend Valentines Day with her friends.
Valentine's virtual event
Across our homes we had a fantastic time joining, Kathryn Delve, Master Florist, for a Valentine’s-inspired live virtual flower arranging demonstration. Kathryn shared brilliant and creative ways to decorate our tables with beautiful flowers that are sure to make your heart swoon!
Those participating in this virtual event put their skills to the test and followed along with some amazing creations of their own. Residents truly enjoyed the experience.
Medical Detection Dogs
Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs. Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.
Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.
We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.
Reconnecting with the Salvation Army
our resident May had a lovely visit from a lady called Ann Humes from The Salvation Army. May often has chats with us about her memories of being a child and her involvement with The Salvation Army, May remembers from the age of 6 watching the band play and marching through the streets as she would stand with her mother and sister at her front door, eager to get involved. They would post envelopes through neighbour’s doors to collect money in their honour. Her mother would always supply tea, coffee and refreshments for everyone. When May would visit the church on a Sunday she was given her tea and dropped back home by The Salvation Army, she loved going with her sister Dulcie. Ann brought May gifts too, 2 Salvation Army teddy bears, 1 female and 1 male wearing the Salvation Army Uniform, a box of chocolates and War Cry magazines, she was thrilled to receive these. Ann runs a group at a local church for seniors every Wednesday, we have accepted her offer to visit one week and get involved in activities with May and more of our residents.
Big Quiz of the Year
All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!
Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.
Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
Meeting the Reindeers
Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.
Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers.
We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.
