Activities at Springvale Court Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Jess Swinburne
Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.
I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Life at Springvale Court Care Home
London Ladies
As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, Residents from across our services were thrilled to join tour guide, Mandy Morrow, for an exciting talk about some Legendary London Ladies.
Mandy shared the fascinating stories of eight ladies with us, from the one of the richest heiresses in the world to the original 'Roaring Girl'.
Everyone who participated truly enjoyed the experience and were delighted to take a walk down memory lane.
Resident realises dream
Raymond, a resident at Springvale Court Care Home, has always loved cycling and in his younger days spent a lot of his time cycling all over the country. He had a real passion for fitness and the feeling that moving along at speed gave him. He was a dedicated member of The National Clarion Cycling Club and cycled from Edinburgh to London on a number of occasions.
From chatting with Raymond, the team at Springvale Court knew he loved his bike but that unfortunately, due to mobility issues, Raymond is no longer able to cycle. However, undeterred, the staff at Springvale Court set about getting him in contact with a local cycling club.
Bingo Bonanza
Across the country our homes and hospitals came together to find out which care home or hospital had the best Bingo players as we teamed up for Barchester’s Bingo Bonanza.
Residents were treated to some exciting virtual games of Bingo as part of Barchester’ very own game show series.
Everyone who participate had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
Sing-a-long with John Valentine's Special
Springvale Court residents enjoyed a live performance from Sing-a-long John this Valentine’s Day. John brings a spinning wheel with many different genres of music, our residents take it in turns to spin the wheel and then choose a song. Joyce got up and had a boogie to the music while everyone clapped and sang along. We had songs by Doris Day and Elvis Presley chosen by Cathy and Harry. Hazel our new resident said she hadn’t enjoyed herself as much in such a long time, it was so lovely to spend Valentines Day with her friends.
Taking a trip down memory lane
Jessica our activities co-ordinator and Joyce took a trip down memory lane as they looked through one of our books called “ The Old Pubs and Streets of Gateshead”. Joyce laughed when she seen some of the old pubs as she remembered fond memories with friends.
Movie magic with popcorn and hotdogs
Residents at Springvale spent their afternoon in the lounge watching movies. We closed the curtains, got our feet up and enjoyed our cinema experience, with hot dogs and popcorn. First we watched “All Quiet On The Western Front” then “Pretty Woman” which was requested by Hazel she said she has watched this film over 100 times and it will always be a favourite - hot dogs and popcorn were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
