Activities at St Thomas Care Home

Our activities coordinator is dedicated to organising meaningful activities on an individual and group basis to fulfill the daily needs of our residents, as we understand how important mental and physical stimulation is for their wellbeing. Our activities are available to everyone who wants to take part and there is something different going on everyday. We often go out on day trips including visiting shopping centres, garden centres, evening meals at the local pubs, visits to local schools and also coffee mornings with other care homes. We have a wide range of entertainers that visit us at our home including musical therapists, Millers Ark Farm, pantomimes as well as our local salvation army and lots more. We encourage families to join us on trips out and also in home activities such as baking, arts and crafts, dancing and singing, we believe this is a great way for our residents to live an active and fun life here with us at St Thomas.

Life at St Thomas Care Home

Keeping Fit

Our residents enjoyed a session with Gfitness, where they took part in armchair exercises. Everyone had fun exercising to music, and there was also a lot of laughter, particularly when using the giant elastic bands!

Magic Table

Magic Table

St Thomas had a Magic Table installed recently. Magic tables are being used in care homes to stimulate and engage residents. The new devices are a special piece of technology designed to support residents living with dementia, to increase physical and social interactions, and most of all have fun!

The residents at St Thomas regularly use their magic table independently, in a group and with their families. There have been several football tournaments played, as well as quizzes completed and songs composed.

The Wonders of Woodturning

Residents at St Thomas enjoyed a woodturning demonstration at the home. A beautiful day enable everyone to enjoy this demonstration in the garden, where refreshments were also served.

Phil Boulter spoke to the residents about the types of wood used and then made a bud vase and trinket box. Phil also brought along a number of items which he had made previously.

Although predominantly watched by the men at St Thomas, some of our ladies also ventured out. The feedback from residents and relatives was extremely positive.

The Magic Table

We are delighted to announce that we have just had a Magic Table installed, which is an interactive light projector, designed to support residents living with dementia by keeping them engaged through specialised games.

The light projections respond to hand and arm movement, promoting movement, allowing residents to stay stimulated and, most of all, have fun!

You can read more about it on this page.

Singing for the Brain

Singing for the Brain

In recognition of Dementia Awareness Week, we went to our local Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Singing for the Brain’ session, which was being held in our local library! Arthur made a new friend in the BFG papier mâché; he found him really funny! It was ‘Garden & Birds’ theme this week, so we sang a few songs and even added a few moves in too! We made some new friends there too, which we are looking forward to meeting again at the next session!

International Museum Day

International Museum Day

For International Museum Day, we went to our local Milestones Museum, where we took a trip down memory lane whilst looking at vintage vehicles, and enjoying tea & singalongs in a vintage pub. We used our ration card to get our sweet rations and had a go in the penny arcade as well! It was so much fun reminiscing about Hampshire’s living history, and the ladies really enjoyed it!
