Activities at Stamford Bridge Beaumont Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

The activity team within our home spend a lot of time committing themselves to organising a range of activities for residents. This includes, pet therapy, trips out to local places of interest, visits from entertainers and musicians, bingo, one to one pamper time, weekly quizzes, coffee mornings, arts and crafts and baking. Activities are considered to be a crucial aspect of our home as residents look forward to upcoming events. As a result, it is essential that our team work together with dedication, to ensure residents are entertained and involved in as many activities as possible.

Michael Lythgoe

Activities Lead

I have worked in the care sector for 36 years, initially working for the NHS at Brandesburton Hospital as a care assistant. When the hospital closed I transferred to Townend Court and continued as a care assistant on the forensic ward for people with a learning disability. It was whilst working with the Occupational therapists at Townend that I discovered my passion for engaging the patients in activities of their choosing, I’m quite artistic and creative so it was an easy transition

I have many years’ experience working with the older generation and those who live with dementia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other diagnosis’.

I am really looking forward to bring both my experience and passion to my new role and to see the positive impact on our resident population.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Stamford Bridge Beaumont Care Home

105th birthday celebrations

Emily was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as she received a telegram from the King in recognition of her landmark birthday. A gathering was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s chef.

Emily was born in 1919 in Easingwold and she has always been a local girl. Emily and her husband Henry lived on a farm for many years before Henry unfortunately passed away almost 40 years ago. Emily and Henry share a son and a daughter who are both now married and have children of their own. Emily has four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Emily moved into Stamford Bridge on the 9th December 2022 and has since enjoyed many activities like welcoming Alpacas into the home and a trip out to Burnby Hall Gardens to name a couple.

Christmas Jumper Day

There were many jumpers on display for Christmas Jumper day with the residents, staff team and visitors all joining in and helping to raise a significant amount of money for our chosen charity.

Everybody who wore a jumper put £1 into the collection jar, we also had several other donations so a big thank you to those people also.

To select the charity we asked for suggestions over the preceding week and decided to put all the names into a jar and Mr Bryan Lawson, our resident ambassador drew out the winner which was Cancer Research.

Hot Chocolate Reindeers

Our residents have really enjoyed helping with the preparations for the Christmas Fayre, amongst the many things they have made are the “Hot Chocolate Reindeers” that will be for sale on the day.

It was so wonderful seeing the smiles on peoples faces as the reindeers began to take shape and the very real sense of pride that they were really helping with the preparations.

We are absolutely certain that the Reindeers will be an enormous success.

Storm Darragh couldn’t stop us

Despite storm Darragh being forecast for the day of our Christmas Fayre we hastily re-arranged our outside activities and made the decision to go ahead with the day as planned.

The tombola and raffle sold out in double quick time, both had an incredible amount of prizes available thanks to the generosity of both the local community and local businesses, the hot chocolate was also another huge success, as was the mulled wine, to be honest everything was absolutely amazing and made all the hard work worth it in the end.

A massive thank you to everybody who helped and attended the Fayre, far too many to name, without you it would not have been the enormous success that it was.

Residents crowned Christmas cake champions!

Excitement is running high at Stamford Bridge Beaumont where the talented residents have been named the winners of the annual Barchester Christmas Cake competition for the North East & Scotland Division.

QEach year residents from Barchester’s care homes and hospitals up and down the country compete for the coveted Christmas Cake of the Year title. The competition is run by the central hospitality team and the bar is set very high. Many of Barchester’s residents are very skilled bakers and the Christmas cake designs can be very elaborate.  Competition is fierce and only the very best recipes and designs will prevail.

A Christmas Carol with the Old Vic

Across our homes we’ve had the most wonderful time celebrating the festive season with a special screening of 2020’s OLD VIC: IN CAMERA – A Christmas Carol.

This beautifully staged production brought the magic of Dickens’ classic tale right into our homes. A huge thank you to The Old Vic theatre for sharing this incredible performance with us. It was a truly wonderful experience.
