Activities at Stamford Bridge Beaumont Care Home

The activity team within our home spend a lot of time committing themselves to organising a range of activities for residents. This includes, pet therapy, trips out to local places of interest, visits from entertainers and musicians, bingo, one to one pamper time, weekly quizzes, coffee mornings, arts and crafts and baking. Activities are considered to be a crucial aspect of our home as residents look forward to upcoming events. As a result, it is essential that our team work together with dedication, to ensure residents are entertained and involved in as many activities as possible.

Michael Lythgoe

Activities Lead

I have worked in the care sector for 36 years, initially working for the NHS at Brandesburton Hospital as a care assistant. When the hospital closed I transferred to Townend Court and continued as a care assistant on the forensic ward for people with a learning disability. It was whilst working with the Occupational therapists at Townend that I discovered my passion for engaging the patients in activities of their choosing, I’m quite artistic and creative so it was an easy transition

I have many years’ experience working with the older generation and those who live with dementia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other diagnosis’.

I am really looking forward to bring both my experience and passion to my new role and to see the positive impact on our resident population.

Virtual event with Graham Whitlock

We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.

Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure.

A great time was had by all.

A visit from a furry friend!

We enjoyed another Animal visit as we welcomed back Flossy from Pets As Therapy

Flossy is a retired guide dog who has been visiting for the past year, everyone is always very pleased to see her and her lovely own Gail who gives up her own time to bring Flossy in to see us all.

We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Wizard of Oz

Oh we're off to see the wizard the wonderful wizard of oz.

Residents on our Residential Unit have enjoyed looking at flashcards from the film, chatting about how lovely the film is and then we all settled down and watched the film. Singing along to all the wonderful songs.

Japanese Day

Residents made a banner saying ‘welcome to Japan’. They enjoyed sushi and pebble painting on the Terrace. Some really enjoyed the sushi and others didn’t! But it all sparked some great conversations about the country and the food.

International Nurses Day

We celebrated the anniversary of the birth of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, also known as International Nurses Day, by acknowledging our dedicated and hard working nurses.

To mark the occasion and say thank you each nurse received a certificate of thanks signed by our residents along with sweet treats and fizz.

Every staff member at our home is going above and beyond. A big thank you to you all.

Dinky the lamb pays a visit

Stamford Bridge Beaumont care home, in York, was full of animal mischief on Thursday when a Ryedale Animal Group came to visit the home with Dinky the Lamb.   Residents at Stamford Bridge Beaumont were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friend roaming around their home as the animal group paid a visit.

General Manager Emma Smith said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitor today. We knew that having the farm here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
