Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home
Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.
Alison Wareing
Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.
I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals. After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication. The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.
Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Sutton Grange Care Home
Mad Hatters Tea Party
Our residents had a great time at the Mad Hatters tea party, we were joined by the Mad Hatter himself and all his friends. Our residents said they had a wonderful time singing and dancing all afternoon.
Wallace Collection
Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.
During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.
We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.
Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.
Baking
We love to have a baking session it fills our home with wonderous smells and the finished baked goods are always good to eat. Our residents have excellent baking skills and as you can see the finished brownies look amazing.
Pet therapy
Our residents really enjoy their weekly visit from Woody one of the therapy dogs that visit us here at Sutton Grange. Woody loves nothing more than having all the attention on him and our residents are more than happy to give it to him.
Barking up!
Staff, residents and their guests at Barchester’s Sutton Grange care home, in Banks, enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of doggy entertainment for National Dog Day.
Sutton Grange invited friends and relatives to bring along their dogs to be shown and judged by one of our residents Dorothy and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Marilyn Westley and the Deputy Mayoress Councillor Kate Mitchell of West Lancashire. We had many catagories including best 6 legs, Most Handsome Dog and the best in show.
Parachute and Exercise
Our residents engaged in our weekly exercise and parachute session. Everyone enjoys these sessions and particularly all using the parachute keeping the ball on the parachute by moving it around. All the exercises are designed to promote increased motor skill function and to have fun.
