Activities at Sutton Grange Care Home
Here at Sutton Grange we work really hard at providing a range of activities to suit our residents needs. We understand that everyone is different and we enjoy supporting our residents in whatever activities they would like to take part in. With a dedicated Activities co-ordinator and a friendly team of volunteers we are always busy with activities. We have several clubs including; gardening, film, craft, music, puzzles, and singing. We enjoy live music and entertainment, both in and outside of the home, and have regular outings on the minibus to local places of interest. Residents take part in animal assisted therapy, afternoon tea, arts and crafts classes, and visits from local community groups and school children. We believe it is important to provide stimulating, meaningful and relevant activities for our residents in order to make friends, and build a warm community to live.
Alison Wareing
Hi, I'm Alison. I am the Activities Assistant here at Sutton Grange, I joined the team in 2016.
I grew up in the local area and started my career working with animals. After I had my daughter, and before I joined Barchester, I trained as a teacher and taught lipreading and communication. The skills I learnt have been invaluable in my role today.
Now, I fill my days spending time with our wonderful Residents, helping them to live their lives to the fullest. I try to make a difference in someone’s life each day.

Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Sutton Grange Care Home
Just passing through
Our residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Daniel Snowman, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Just Passing Through’.
Author of over a dozen books, Daniel Snowman’s long and active life has led him to interact in countless ways with the wider world and with some of its most famous inhabitants. His memoir evokes these experiences via a series of vivid literary vignettes.
Our residents found the talk very intriguing and informative, and were happy to learn more about Daniel’s experiences around the world. A great time was had by all.
Virtual event with vocal coach
Our homes had a fantastic time with vocal coach Mark De-Lisser as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy.
Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees.
There were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
Brass band delights community
Residents at Sutton Grange Care Home in Banks had an amazing time venturing into the local community and listening to a brass band.
Staff and residents engaged with the local residents and altogether enjoyed a wonderful musical experience, the band was delightful as was the company of the community.
Benn Mott, General Manager at Sutton Grange said: “At Sutton Grange we love engaging with our community, we are part of a wonderful small community in Banks and our residents love nothing more than meeting, chatting and sharing stories. It was lovely hearing our residents experiences of listening to the brass band and they looked so cosy all wrapped up”.
Janet, resident at Sutton Grange said: “We had such a wonderful time listening to the band on the field, they were so good and the other people who came were so lovely.”
Poetry club
Our residents enjoyed a lovely afternoon of poetry read from a book written by our very own resident ambassador Ken. Everyone had a lovely time reading and listening to some of the wonderful poems Ken has written, alongside listening to the influences which led Ken to writing the poems.
Residents meeting
Our monthly residents meeting takes place in our bistro and gives all our residents chance to chat to all our heads of department, Benn our General Manager and discuss any successes that we have accomplished as a home and anything that our residents need us to know. We also discuss what activities that we have planned and our residents tell us what activities they would like to do.
National Trust talk
Our homes had a fantastic time joining National Trust Talks Service team at Cliveden House for an inspirational talk on Nancy Astor – the first woman to take a seat in the House of Commons.
Our residents had the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating life of Nancy and her political career. As the first women MP, she experienced both attention and scandal throughout her life, which led to many triumphs and numerous disasters. The talk was truly enjoyed by all.

What's going on in November? We'll be hosting our annual Dog Show, taking a virtual walk through the Wallace Collection, and taking a trip out to Blackpool's Illuminations.

Everyone invited to pop along for a cup of tea, some snacks and some intergenerational activities with the little ones!
Dementia Choir - Every Wednesday
Come along as we're joined by wonderful local organisation Carousel as they host their weekly Memories R Made Dementia Choir at our home. Everyone is welcome!
